For those interested in JD Watt, he had a great night last night, netting his first pro hat trick, and adding an assist for a 4 point night. He was flying and all over the ice. He was also a +4, and that includes being on the ice for a goal against in garbage time. I guess we shouldn't get used to him being in Vegas.

I dont tink we will see him in the qc that much this year. You guys will probably see Aki back and hopefully spang once Baldwin gets healthy.

Nick Larson won a gold medal with team USA in the Junior A Challenge beating Canada West. Had 2 assists in the tourny and numerous roughing penalties.

Aaron Marvin with another good game on the weekend. 2 goals and 1 assist in a Win on Saturday.
For those interested, Marvin is tied for 3rd on the team with 8 points (3g-5a) in 9 games.

Quick Pro Round-Up:

J.D. Watt had a hat trick in a 6-2 Las Vegas win over Phoenix (He's got 9 points in 7 games; Vegas is 4-4-1)

Jamie Lundmark (13 pts), Kris Chucko (11 pts) and Kyle Greentree (10 points) are the stand-outs in Quad City so far. Brett Palin is +6 and Brett Sutter is +4. Matt Keetley is 4-7-0 with a shutout and a 2.27 goals against in 11 games.

Interesting comment, but I wonder if the quality of the school team skews comparisons like this a bit. Chucko went to a better hockey program, thus more competition for ice time, PP time, etc. I don't know, thoughts? But hey, points are points and you still have to be good to get them.

Not saying Marvin isn't a good prospect but at the same age Chucko was already playing in the AHL so I don't think it's a fair comparison.

Well that's not a fair comparison either because Chucko left Minnesota after his sophomore year to turn pro. It was his choice to do so, and not because he was just so good.

Well, you were asking for thoughts and I gave you another fact to ponder. I'm not trying to come to any conclusions yet on Marvin's prospects.

John Negrin had a four point weekend with two assists in each game against the Hurricanes and the Oil Kings.

He's now has 18 points in 21 games for the Ice.

Mikael Backlund only has 5 points in 10 games Allsvenskan.

Suprisingly though, he has 33 PIMs well eclipsing his young career's record. Anyone know the story on this?

His previous high was 24 PIMs in 3 games last year.

Matt Keetley sits 9th in the AHL in GAA at 2.31 and 14th in the AHL in save pct at .917.

This is impressive considering that he leads the league in games played at 13 and his team can't win any games.

Being near the top of the league while holding a 4-9-0 record, to me, indicates that he is one of the lone bright spots on Quad Cities.

I can't speak for his PIMs, however he is on his best PPG average of his career playing for Vasteras.

I know it's only 0.5 Points Per Game but is an improvement nonetheless.

I compare him to Berglund who is a year older and has a similar career trajectory.....signed around the same ages, both with Vesteras, both highly touted, etc. Berglund ended 2007/08 on a point per game pace, but I can't recall how he fared early on. He got top line minutes apparently while Backlund didn't get as much prime icetime last year.

Backlund was starting to put up some points towards the end of last year and in the playoffs especially.

Since Backlund's "deer-in-the-headlights" stint with the flames, he has been quiet in terms of points and newsflow.

2 more assists for Brodie tonight. 16 points in 16 games. Looking like a really good pick by the flames.

Also just a reminder tomorrow night OHL plays Russia in the ADT Canada/Russia Challenge. Opportunity to check out both Nemisz and Brodie as they will be playing in that game.

Did anyone catch the CHL prospect game on Sportsnet? I was watching the Flames so I didn't get to see it. Can you guys comment on the performance of Nemisz and/or Brodie? Thanks..........
