Man...Ike is absolutely clobbering Texas.

Over 4 million people without power....2 million in Houston alone. Also without power is a whole row of refineries that face flooding later as well.....just great news for those of us in areas that have gas stations without any product to sell.

There are fears that many many people who didn't heed the evacuation order may find a very grim fate when the storm passes.

This is also an example of the complacency of a big portion of the population. I mean this was "only a cat 2" hurricane...therefore, no big deal.

There is no such thing as a non-dangerous hurricane....they are simply destroying machines that need to be treated with the utmost respect.

Overnight, dispatchers received thousands of calls from frightened residents who bucked mandatory orders to leave as the storm closed in.

Rescue crews were frustrated, but vowed to get to the more than 140,000 people who stubbornly stayed behind as soon as they could.
This is the type of thing that gets me. I just hope no emergency personnel are put in peril because of someone who snubbed a MANDATORY order.

The wind is starting to pick up here. Just went outside brought a bunch of stuff in and tied down anything else that can move. Possible gusts of 130 km/h tonight.

Picked up groceries this morning. Filled a few bottles of water and put them in the fridge. And we have our candles and radio ready and the tubs filled with water (in case the power goes out and we need to flush). And now we wait.

Here's to a damage free encounter for you and yours, and everyone else in Nova Scotia and points in proximity to Kyle.
