So is the ACC going to be terrible? Clemson was manhandled by 'Bama. Maybe Saban is doing a faster job than anyone thought he would?

Worst conference in BCS football by a wide margin.
NC State got whacked by 34, Maryland barely beat D II Delaware at home, NC (the one who was supposed to be better) had all they could handle against McNeese State and UNC was at home....MCNEESE STATE...USC travelled 4000 miles across country to beat Virginia (best home record in the ACC the last 5 years) 52-7......VA Tech lost to East Carolina....Bama smoked Clemson badly....
So the conference sits at 7-4 so far....with a very weak schedule by the winners.
the SEC is #1 and the Big 12 and PAC 10 come in behind them...but almost tied in strength....then the Big 10 and the Bigeast and finally the ACC.

I think its a little too early to tell. This is why pre-season rankings/standings/ expectations are garbage, I will judge by the end of the month.
Its the first game you can't be serious about trying to predict the conferences and judging everyones skill after 1 week.
Could it be just a coincidence that Clemson had a bad week 1, didn't Michigan lose to App State last year and finish the year by beating Florida in the Capital One Bowl game.
I am guessing you though Michigan would have been garbage last year.

Seems like clemson has a "bad week" every flippin year at the wrong time.....but what does that have to do with what the ACC is doing this year?

Actually I thought they would be right there when the season started...turns out they weren't very good going 8-4 in regular season and losing to 3 unranked teams, twice at home . Looks like much of the majority of the ACC this year is going the same direction.

I am not saying clemson never chokes, they choke in a lot of sporting events. I think the media gives them too much hype. Unfortunately they don't have the recruiting powers say such as your team, I could easily flip and cheer for a school that will consistantly be good, but I won't
I also think Clemson will go 9-3. They will bounce back and win the ACC. Thats what I was thinking at the beginning of the year
I think Bama is better than the media is giving credit for. They could be a top 3 SEC school this year and a top 3 SEC school in football will beat a top ACC contender any day,
Is it a bad division this year, only time will tell, traditionally the ACC is not a strong football conference, but on the other hand you can argue that it is the toughest conference for basketball.

Looks like the prognosticators who said Michigan could have a horrendous season by there standards were correct. No way should they of been a top 25 team at seasons start.

Utah fan here and the game would have been a blow out if Utah didn't take so many penalties. Do discount Michigan so much Utah is that good.

Well U dub is garbage again, getting rolled up 44-10 by Oregon, and with the Ducks' third string QB playing the majority of the game. Thought Alabama looked solid, and another reason to have rankings after the first month.

LSU plays at U-Dub next year, I'll be there for sure! Here's hoping that Washington will improve, or it will be a bloodletting.

Im a gator fan (grew up in florida) and the UH game made me nervous. Hawaii looked good at first until Florida changed their defence. We all know what happend from there. Florida was with out Brandon Spikes there best linebacker and Heisman Canidate Percy Harvin.
Feel bad for Miami go gators.
Im not a USC fan by any means but I hope that USC CRUSHES OSu so we dont have to see another SEC team steamroalling them in the NC game.

Utah is a fairly good team this year, no question. may even be the surprise team to make a BCS bowl this year, though Fresno State looks awfully strong as well.
However, Michigan should NEVER lose to a team like that at home.....they are the most winningest program in NCAA history, and a lot of that came on the strength of beating clubs like Utah handily.
Again, a lot has to do with the limit on scholarships and the "filtering down" of talent, and Michigan just isnt a great team the last couple years, so the Utah win is terrific for that program but shoudn't happen in a "normal" season.

So long as the Big Least is around there is no way that it can be a wide margin.
At least the ACC can produce some good teams fairly often and programs like VT and FSU will turn it around.
The Big East never has good teams (West Virginia would have been killed by a real team last year) and never will have good teams.
I would take the ACC over the Big Least every single year (although this year the ACC may make it close.)

yeah I wasnt even thinking about them when I said that. I will say that WV is much better than you are giving them credit for (good test this weekend against ECU on the road) , but beyond that its a joke when it comes to football.
As an example...
Pitt gets beat AT HOME by Bowling Green...by 10
Louisville gets beat AT HOME by kentucky....by 25
Rutgers trails Fresno State AT HOME...by 17 (with 3 minutes left)

Man what a GREAT football game tonight with UCLA pulling off a rather big upset over Tenessee.
UCLA starts with their 3rd string QB because of injuries who throws 4 picks in the 1st half including 1 for a TD in the last minute, lose 3 seniors in the 1st quarter to injury, and are facing one of the "players" in the SEC.
Good stuff for a team I really dont like much, but certainly helps the PAC 10 in conference strength.

New polls are out.
Southern Cal jumps to #1 after a very strong performace. Also a bit of Georgia "buyers remorse" since the initial polls were submitted before a couple injuries/suspensions altered some folks outlook of the Bulldogs.
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/rankingsindex
AP Top 25
1. USC (21) 1-0 1,539
2. Georgia (20) 1-0 1,506
3. Ohio State (15) 1-0 1,497
4. Oklahoma (2) 1-0 1,432
5. Florida (5) 1-0 1,415
6. Missouri (1) 1-0 1,301
7. LSU (1) 1-0 1,207
8. West Virginia 1-0 1,108
9. Auburn 1-0 1,033
10. Texas 1-0 1,028

That's quite impressive actually. I am as big a proponent of NOT having polls until mid October, but one of my other peeves is that teams tend to be entitled to their preseason ranking which was based on nothing.
However in this case Georgia isn't given the #1 as a birth right, which is a step in the right direction I guess.

Some nailbiters for high ranked teams in early games today.
Ohio St. needed a huge 2nd half to beat Ohio...a late punt return put them up by 12 which was the final margin. they were favored by 33. If they bring that junk to LA next week, USC will pummel them.
Wisconsin was down 14 to Marshall before storming back and winning big. Michigan looked terrible against Miami of Ohio....but won by 10.
Washington looks good early against a very good BYU team.....this one should be a blowout in BYU's favor, but the Huskies are hanging with em so far.
Tonights game should be interesting...Miami trying to get back into the national scene against the uberly talented Florida team.
game of the day IMO will be East Carolina at home against West Virginia...if ECU can pull this one out combined with beating Va Tech last week...they should be a top 20 team by Tuesday.
