Does "romance" include "adult"?

Here's my 2 cents...Take it for what it's worth.
20 categories seems like too many. With 30 teams, that's 600 picks. If we average 50 picks a week (which I'd think is higher than we can realistically expect), it'll take at least 12 weeks to get through it all, which takes us past Thanksgiving. I think 15 categories should be the maximum.
Also, it seems like too many small genres, with a lot of overlap between them. I'd prefer to keep the genres more broadly defined, which would also give people more freedom with their picks. I think it'd be interesting to see someone attempt to do an "All Sci-Fi" or an "All Western" team.
Also, rather than Made outside the USA, I'd like to see a Non-English category, and because most of us are Canadian, a Made in Canada category (or even a Made in Alberta, since there have been quite a few).
Here's a list of categories that I think would generate some interesting teams... - pre-1960
- 1960s
- 1970s
- 1980s
- 1990s
- 2000s
- Best Picture/Screenplay (Oscar, Golden Globes, Cannes, Sundance)
- Drama
- Comedy
- Animated
- Documentary
- Black & White
- Non-English language
- Made in Canada
- Wild Card

I would rather have more categories than just 15, but I'm open to anything really.

I still think we need a category for action, as so many action movies just don't fit into drama or comedy. But just about any movie can be fitted to at least one of those three.
Personally I'd like more categories, but since the point about the length of the thread exploding is valid, maybe we could pick two movies at a time? Would make things go twice as fast.

If there's still room I'd like to be part of this draft. I've enjoyed following the other two drafts, lot's of fun.

Personally, I'd take out pre 1960 and 60s, documentary and black & white. Lets make it less snobbish, I'd rather see people picking movies they really watch and enjoy, rather than pick highly rated black and white movies off imdb.com because really, can anyone name 30 quality black and white or pre 60s movies off the top of their head?

Yup! that's 27 now.
I think everyone picking 1 pre-60s flick isn't too hard.. if not we'll have to make it pre-70s.
There are ALOT of movies out there.
I'm quite busy today and tomorrow. We'll discuss the categories in more detail tomorrow night.

Maybe I'm a little older than most here but there are tons of good pre-60's movies. There really has to be more than one pick each! For anybody that hasn't seen many here's your chance. Go and rent some classics or watch TCM on cable. To only have one pick for pre-60's just does not seem right in a movie draft.

Documentary might be kinda hard.
And looking at that list, I can imagina a combination of 60's, pre-60's, b&w, documentary and non-english might prove to be really difficult for some people.
Not that I'd mind.
Anyway, I'd be more interested in seeing people's choices in caterogies like SciFi, Fantasy, War, Horror or Sports than something like 70's.
I mean, I could easily do smalltalk about something like "what's your favourite warfilm", but "what film from the 70's do you like best", that seems kind of pointless.
So if categories have to be cut, I'd rather cut off the recent decades or even all the decades rather than genres. Maybe keep black&white there to make sure we'll see at least some old movies.

Please let's keep the pre-60's, documentaries, black & white etc.....if people aren't that familiar with them then here's a chance for them to learn from some of us who love watching those movies (which I assume is the point of this draft in some way?).
I'm already wrangling with a list and seriously, as a fan of older movies, trying to choose just one is hard enough!

There's nothing stopping you from picking tons of older movies if we go by categories, and so others can learn about some cool old movies out there if they want to. But I don't think it contributes much to make them pick ones, if they don't have a background in watching them.

As hard as it is for me, I have to agree with Itse
I'd keep categories only, you can always pick old movies in each category.

I was afraid that if there weren't 'decade' categories nobody would pick any old movies at all. I will keep the pre-60s one but get rid of 2000s, 1990s, 1980s, 1970s and 1960s.
Looks like we won't get to 30 people, nobody has signed up since friday so we'll call it off at 27.
- Pre-60s
- Best Picture (Oscar, Golden Globes, Cannes, Sundance)
- Documentary / non-fiction
- "Foreign" (any non-US movie)
- Action
- Animation
- Black & White
- Comedy
- Drama
- Fantasy
- Musical
- Sci-Fi
- Sports
- Thiller/Horror
- War
- Wildcard
That's what we have so far..
Suggestions/Comments?

Ok so that's 28.
Always when there's a deadline more people will jump in heh.
So absolute deadline is 6pm.
16 categories are set.

Fine by me.
Although I liked non-english better than "not made in US", especially since these days they might film in Eastern Europe with Asian money, a Russian director, British actors... Language is simpler. But I'm fine either way.
Also I believe Berlin was supposed to be included in the award winners.
