The highest road in Canada is Kananaskis Trail, where it crosses the Highwood Pass (2206m).

According to legend, Nelson Skalbania offered Gretzky's playing rights to either Edmonton or Winnipeg, depending on which team's owner won a game of backgammon.

In truth, Skalbania was in desperate need for money, and offered 99 to the Jets first. When he couldn't make a deal, he then offered Gretzky to Peter Pocklington, with whom he had co-owned the Oilers a few years previous.

Glen Sather told Pocklington to jump all over the offer after Gretzky beat the crap out of the Oilers while with the Indianapolis Racers.

I heard a slightly different version. I heard that Gretzky pushed the Edmonton deal because his goal was to play in the NHL and Edmonton was considered more likely to be absorbed into the NHL while Winnipeg was an uncertainty at the time.

Another Gretzky fact that I heard but am too lazy to confirm is that he and his brother Brent (with his 4 points) are the highest scoring brother combination of all time in the NHL.

I'm pretty sure the brother act statement is correct. The story of how he got moved from Indianapolis to Edmonton probably has 50 iterations though.

Also, in the early 20th century, hockey referees had the ability to call minor penalties, major penalties and levy fines.

The Sith were originally called The Damned, but a British band with the same name debuted in February 1977, forcing Lucas to dub over the word with “Sith” in post-production. To this day, Lucas hates all punk rock.

After the Stanley Cup turned pro, Albert George Grey, 4th Earl Grey and Governor General of Canada, intended to donate a new trophy to the Dominion senior hockey champions. Sir H. Montague Allen beat him to the punch, and instead, the Grey Cup became the Dominion rugby football championship. This despite the fact that Lord Grey likely never saw a football game in his life.

103 years later, the Grey Cup is the biggest single-day sporting event in Canada, while the Allan Cup has faded into complete obscurity.
