This is probably one of the few games that I am excited for. The Be A Pro was something I've been waiting for since I've played the superstar mode in madden 07.

More information on IGN's preview found here:

http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/887/887208p1.html

It includes a short trailer on the defensive "skill stick" and the be a pro mode sounds pretty awesome.

Basically you build your player and choose a role, then start on your AHL team. After every game, your coach sits you down and tells you what you need to work on, what you improved on. If you consistently put up good results in certain categories you improve. (ie. lots of goal scoring would improve shot speed, slap shot, deaking etc.)

Excited!

Thanks for the update finner. using the stick for defense is something i wanted to do with the current game, but so many times the puck seemed to go through it. Nice to see that could change.

Still no mention of multiplayer season. In our younger years my friends and I would do a 3 person season and just trade the memory card back and forth. With the glory of the intenets and next gen gaming, we can just email the file to each other. Sounds awesome, but we need the feature in the freaking game first!

it seems every year they revamp the controls so you have to re-learn how to dangle again... very frustrating. I hope they keep the same controls, just adding more to it rather than starting from scratch again.

Excited about create-a-play online, but worried this will somehow be quickly exploited. Wondering if the slap-pass will be part of the game this year.

Glad we can change D + Fwds differently now.

I really wish they would let you save your lines online so that you don't have to change them before each game... lots of people hate waiting the minute or so it takes and quit...

Actually you can now, with X360 and PS3. As long as you don't have the issue of having to check your rosters online each time your fire up the game, you can edit your lines. I don't think you can dressed scratched players though is the issue right now.

Have you tried deleting any other roster file and just save the one that you got from online?

Clearly EA thinks the PC is dead.

Does anybody know why EA won't put out a Wii version? I've bought EA games for several years and it's frustrating after years of support that I can no longer buy a game for my system. I guess I'll go over to 2K but I've never played 2K because Nintendo never had it. Irony I guess.

It's kind of odd considering they could just do a straight port from the ps2. Considering the last 3 years of the ps2 series have been exactly the same, they must have some free time (unless they have 2 or 3 people working on it). Kind of strange they'd ignore such a huge install base. I understand why the next gen team won't touch it just because it would be a 180 from what they're working on, but the ps2 is just sitting there doing very little!

Does anyone know if they're going to get rid of the most annoying thing since 06 came out? I'm talking about in franchise mode when you choose not to renew certain contracts and the AI automatically re-signs them for you.

I agree. Are they being held back by the control scheme? I thought I read around the same time that the Wii was released that EA Sports had a dedicated team working on Wii controls and mentioned specifically how they were working on a hockey game.

Whatever. As I've said many times, I was always loyal to EA and NHL08 was a superb product on the PS3 the few times I got to try it out. But I, like all other Wii owners, have been foresaken. 2K Sports will have its chance to win me over this fall and I hope it doesn't disappoint (fingers crossed, especially based on the latest reviews).

Same with PS2. Sometimes I wonder why they even bother

Not anymore. EA now has rebuilt the game from the ground up for all their Wii titles.

NHL would have to do the same thing. I'm not sure why didn't haven't done so yet. But if I recall, the PS2 team has been changed around for NHL 09, so maybe it's in the works for NHL 2010. I would assume so especially with 2K in the run and there should be a market for it.

so the ps2 team is different? That's pretty cool and very needed for the ps2 players out there. I would be shocked if bringing this to the wii wasn't a pretty high priority for that group of developers.

Honestly, PS2 isn't going to make that much strides for the rest of it's lifeline. So I would imagine that Wii should be their main focus if they are in fact in development for it.
