My current ride isn't doesn't have a lot of crosswalks, but the route I used last summer from my old house would have required me to get off my bike 10-12 times in a 12-15 minute bike ride. Getting off 10-12 times would probobly have made the ride 18-20 minutes long.

Rollerblades aren't considered a motor vehicle and you can cross a sidewalk on them

It's under "Vehicles Other Than Motor Vehicles", number 44, point 2.

I try very hard to not affect drivers in a negative way. Once they have stopped for me, I ride across, as this gets me out of their way quite a bit sooner, and is MUCH less annoying for me.

I won't get pissy when I get in your way (I try not to do that in the first place). I will get pissy when drivers don't obey their rules (the simple ones like stopping before the crosswalk or sidewalk) or don't even look to see if there are pedestrians or cyclists before flying through a crosswalk in a merge lane.
I understand what you do, and I wasn't picking on you, just venting a little

I was looking for that, thanks!

This contradicts my previous knowledge of roller-blading, as I always thought you were only allowed on bike paths (for some reason I read that you weren't allowed on the sidewalk).

While looking this up I ran across another rule that says you are not allowed to skate in a Central Traffic Zone, which I believe encompasses most of downtown.

My commute is 28 K each way (1 hour) and I don't go through one crosswalk. As I mentioned before it is mostly on paths, but does consist of roughly 15 minutes on roads. When on roads I considered myself a vehicle and therefore ride through intersections when it's green or proceed through the 4-way stop when it's safe (my turn).

In traffic I do pass on the right side and go straight to the "front of the line" but that's one of the advantages of being a cyclist.

Once again I challange all you anti-cyclists to try it once and make your arguements. I drive half the time and see it from both sides... and I definitely side with my fellow riders.

For many reasons, already discussed here ad nauseam, I would love to see dedicated bike lanes on some or most of our roads. Not bike paths, not the "share the road" crap or a regular car lane marked with a bike symbol, but rather a clearly marked lane using rumble strips or paint.

Great source of traffic fine revenue for the city, because you know dumb drivers would park on them.

Worse off drive on them. Too many impatient drivers in a hurry to get somewhere fast.

They are usually narrower than a shoulder. Making the lines narrower than a car would help solve that problem. I liked how Edmonton handled their bike lanes, but they were too sparse.

you still get morons driving and parking in them. They need a concrete separater, heck, they wouldn't even need to be that high. Parking curb height might do.

Prime example of what would happen in Calgary as it is already happening in Toronto.

Dear gas guzzling jackasses,

I pay taxes too... roadway = mine to use as well.

There are dumb drivers out there much like there are dumb cyclists, the difference being a dumb cyclist will generally make you have a slightly longer commute, while a dumb driver will send a cyclist to a pine box. Share the roads with all vehicles, no matter how much it may inconvenience yourself.

Sincerely,

Guy on bike that has almost been hit by "enraged calgary drivers" on many occasions.

Just cause you pay taxes doesn't give you the right to take up a lane on MacLeod Trail during rush hour. Do you know what the city charges for lane closures? Your lifetime of municipal tax paying could never cover one morning's worth of charges.

Plus, gas taxes pay for roads. Cyclists don't pay for gas, therefore you don't have a stake in the roads. So get off of them.

Not enough to "co-own" the roads.

Hippie.
