sorry for old bump; thought this was closest to topic at hand.

Have you ever almost killed anyone?

about a half hour ago, I almost did. I was going down gateway ( busy edmonton road, limit 60) in the left lane. I was going a little faster than 60 (not enough to get a ticket). A cyclist was riding his bike on the grass (quite narrow) , coming in my direction. He lost control and wiped out into my lane. If this happened one second later- or if i was going 80 KPH, I guarantee his brains would have been splattered all over my bumper, hood, windsheild, and probably his girlfriend who was riding behind him. Seriously, learn how to ride bikes people. I don't want to be even CONSIDERED for a vehicular homicide charge and i'm pretty sure you don't want to end up dead.

This thread makes me think twice about going for my license tomorrow morning.

EDIT: I could get in trouble for sharing court information, so I have removed my story.

Short and simple: Had a convicted murderer and rapist known how to properly wire dynamite, I wouldn't be here today.

So yeah. Wish me luck on my road test tomorrow!

4 times, and witnessed my brother 1 time.

1. Left work @ 2am with my roomie, we were in his firefly, I look to my right and these headlights are coming towards us really fast. I tell the driver to floor it, he does, but since its a firefly it does nothing but rev the engine. This truck missed the back end of the car by inches.

2. Was driving up north to a wedding when I was a kid (like 5), we were making a left hand turn off of the non-divided highway. Some idiot got the bright idea to pass the turning vehicle and plowed right into my door. Fortunately this was the 80s and cars were still built like tanks and we weren't seriously injured. But my door was caved in a couple feet and my mom spent hours picking the glass out of my hair.

3. Late night walk and was mugged. I was hit in the side of my knee from behind then in the head, police figure it was a bat. I escaped with a serious concussion and the loss of a wallet with maybe $5 in it.

4. Had a d-bag pull a gun on me when I confronted him about sexually assaulting my best friend. Fortunately he was more scared than I was and I got away without incident.

The other instance I was 9 and my brother was 6. He sat on the couch with a blank stare and wasn't responding to anyone speaking to him, my mom was freaking out screaming at him and he just stared. I phoned my uncle (before the days of 9-1-1 in my community) for help because I knew he worked at the hospital, my uncle took us there immediately and after a few more days of him being unresponsive (due to constant silent seizures), they hadn't figured out what was wrong, finally after doing nearly every test imaginable, including a spinal tap a new nurse came in from holidays and noticed he had extremely high blood pressure; apparently kids are never supposed to have blood pressure that high, because of her discovering this they found that his kidneys had stopped working.

I am not sure what fixed the problem but they never had to do a transplant or anything, but he was on medication for a couple years and has never had another episode. This was scarier to me than anything that happened to me.

Worst I had was a gun pressed against my forehead and a knife at my stomach when I worked at a 7-11 in Coach Hill years ago.

I don't know how close he was to pulling the trigger.

Many years back, when I worked a forklift at a juice production plant, the workers would get an early start to the weekend by washing all the floors as early as they could. Usually, they would put up signs that folks would know the floor was wet, but this time they didn't.

I come around a corner fully loaded and pretty quick (Hey, I want to go home early on a Friday, too...) and my forklift hits the water. IMO, water is worse than ice for a forklift. I lose control and slide over to the massive racking we have. I begin to think that this is it, and that I'm going to become just another statistic as my forklift spins and the pallet I'm carrying hits the mid point rack between two support beams (supposed to be the weakest place to hit one of those). I look up, expecting to see a mass of orange metal and ingredients and the like come crashing down on my head, and....nothing.

I get off my forklift, and my legs are shaking so bad I can hardly walk. My boss shows up pretty quick, and the only damage was to that one cross support beam, and the 3 pallets involved. No one is quite sure how or why that rack didn't come down, but I'm sure glad it didn't.

My closest avoidance of death was a few days after my first girlfriend dumped me. 3 days later she was in one hell of a car accident and nearly died herself, (t-boned on the passenger side, which is where I would've been)

So yeah, I was never happier to be dumped than I was when I found out.

When i was 5 or 6 (can't really remember) Me, my Mom, Brother, Aunt, and Cousin got into a car accident on a highway late at night when my Aunt fell asleep at the wheel. Our car got hit twice i believe and it completely spun of the highway. The car didn't flip over or anything but that is the closest to death i have ever encountered.

That sounds horrible. Why does your work keep you up that late, smuggling from the Alliance?

Saw a person that was stealing my friends car.

Went over to question the person sitting in it and yanked him out of the car and was giving him a beating. Just then another car pulls up and it is two more of his friends now it is 3 on 1.
Was in the middle of a fight for my life when the cops pull up (girlfriend called before I went over) and arrested them.

Find out that the previous night those 3 were responsible for the stabbing and beating to death of a 73 year old man.

Had a rhino accident this summer in which I almost rolled down a cliff sideways. The tree that got caught between the roll bar and the head rest scratched my arm up pretty good and saved me from rolling down the cliff but holy.... minor heart attack for sure.

In college I was robbed at gunpoint for 7 whopping dollars. Guy came up behind me and put a gun to my ribs/right side.

Closest I ever came to dying I'd have to say was when I was about 12. Was climbing a hill in a pit on my dads 4 wheeler (quad for you albertans) and the front end lifted and I rolled from the top to the bottom. Must have rolled 5 or 6 times.
The 4 wheeler had a canoe/boat rack on it and somehow i rattled around inside without it landing on me or rolling over me.

I crawled out at the bottom shaking, rolled it back on its wheels and drove home, eventually.

closest to death:

http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showpos...postcount=7437

almost killing someone - i'm assuming most stories will be vehicular in nature. there's a lot of inattentive stupid people around... either other drivers/cyclists/pedestrians. i know i've had a couple close calls where people (usually cyclists) shoot out right in front of me.

I almost lost myself to a tree well. I was relatively new to snowboarding but was a good skier, and figured that I could hit some tree powder no problem. I lost my balance and ended up head down on my back.

It was pretty scary - the more I moved the more I sunk and my energy was almost down to nothing. Eventually I decided to release my bindings which took more energy, while I continued to wonder if this was the best move. Thankfully once I did this I was able to use my board (a 160 cm Airwalk!) as a plank to shuffle me out a bit, grabbed onto a branch and then just sat there for twenty minutes or so

A friend ran a red light and we got t-boned on my side by a car that was going about 90km/hr.

Thankfully we were in a Trans-Am with the racing cage and my door had a thick metal bar running across of it.

The other car's hood was up to the windshield and that bar did not even have a scratch on it, literally. Didn't bend at all. Pretty sure that saved my life.
