Holy smokes, you were in the IB program? I thought that thing was just a myth used to make the smart kids at school feel dumb. How tough was it? I've always wondered what that program was like.

And I have a feeling that my biggest problem is getting around to putting in the effort too. Without doing any work, I can fairly easily get mid to high eighties in every class. (except for math. Stupid Pure).

Back on topic, I think I have a hellish load this semester from a high schoolers perspective. French, Bio, English and Physics. Yay for homework. But yeah, I don't see why people complain about having to go to school and stuff. It's repetitive and boring, sure, but it's a helluva lot better than actually having to, ya know, work for a living.

For your information, I was trying to make jokes with CaptainCrunch, I am sure the guy is well educated and respected. He seems like he is joking, but I am honestly curious to know what his educational background is too. But you really should not attack me like you did a few posts back, I don't appreciate it since my jokes didn't even mention you and are not offensive to anyone.

That being said, you are curious to see why I am complaining so much, and why I am in my 5th year of undergrad? It is because I am getting a double degree (that is, two degrees), which means more time, and I also do work as a teaching assistant for a senior level course. Before you go attacking, make sure you don't assume I am taking a fluff degree. My degrees degrees are in 1) Geology, and 2) Geophysics, both of which I am trying to qualify for honors by doing two senior undergraduate theses.

And now everyone else knows why my semester is that from hell. Does anyone know me from school, now that I have outed myself? (The double degree is rare in my program).
You were joking were you. Sure didn't read that way, and it appeared the Captain certainly didn't take it that way. Seemed you were whining and got poked fun at, and you certainly didn't like that, so got snotty in response. And thanks for explaining what a double major was, I never would have figured that one out on my own, like I haven't been through school myself. The idea of graduating with honors never struck a "chord" with me. Thank god we have you highly edjamukated types around to explain it to us supposed "uneducated" types who you think lack the post-secondary education to understand these concepts. Trust me, no anger involved what so ever, and based on the stance you took with the Captain, I took it really easy you.

And then I resurrected this thread, you proceed to jump into a discussion- by attacking other posters- that has nothing to do with you, and is a couple months old.

The point of this thread is not what you are making it into, so as the original thread starter, I would like to ask you to keep it on topic (or let this thread die), and if you have any problems with how "highly edjamukated" or un-educated I may or may not be, please bring that up in a PM or at a CP pub night.

Can't you two just go out to the bike racks after class and solve this?

Hmmm to get back on topic, I'm finding this the hardest semester of my degree so far, but it hasn't exactly been back-breaking compared to what others on this board seem to be exposed to (judging from the comments in this thread anyway). I'm in my second year of a BMus (music) degree, doing 5.5 courses right now but it isn't exactly killing me because well its music. I do have to practice a lot of piano though. Hours and hours

As much fun as it is reading the latest results of Lanny's fun...

I took 4.5 years to complete my BA in History. I took a fairly lazy approach to it and was working 20-30 hours a week at times while doing it. At the time, there were courses that just seems ridiculously difficult and I had a few near breakdowns due to the workload. When you're facing 60 pages of well researched essay due in two weeks, it can feel overwhelming.

However, once you're done it and looking back with the perspective of the working world... bitching about school work loads really does sound like pure unadulterated whining. It's pretty common to work 40-50 hour a week in your career. If you put that kind of dedicated time into school it wouldn't seem so daunting.

Now to be clear on this, since I know some people do put that kind of time into their education. 8 hours a day at school is a far more liberal and lax experience then the average job is. Most students feel overwhelmed and start whining about their work load when they realize they have 40 hours of work to complete in 2 days, when they had over a month to get it done.

I've been out of school for 12 months. I'd love to go back

Haha...yup...unfortunately it's real.

I honestly didn't think it was that tough. Sure I would have had better grades had I not done IB, but it really wasn't that ridiculously hard. Then again...there was a lot of extra work (Extended Essay, etc) that kinda took awhile.

Would I do it again? Depends...my year was really good because there was actually (gasp) people in our class, and for the most part it was a cool group to hang out with and have all of your classes with. My sister is doing it now and there's 2 people in full IB and she hates the other person. I wouldn't do it in that case, and I told her so, but she's a super-keener so it's to be expected I suppose.

I completely 100% disagree, i would rather work a 10 hour day then sit through a single 1 1/2 hour lecture. Which actually is precisely what i did today, hence i am up at this hour thinking about making a snack run to fuel my all night study session for a exam i haven't even thought about tomorrow at noon. But then again i have my own business so I guess working for someone else would probably suck.

Physed class involved carrying bigger lumps of coal up a mountain.

Then we had to take a marketing course which consisted of us doing hundreds of cold calls under the fear of the lash.

So there we were everyday, black from coal dust trudging up the mountain while passing gas and making phonecalls.

You punks have it easy.

school was a good way to laydown the groundwork, but that is about all it did, and i went to UofC and SAIT....SAIT prepared me better...but right now my 7 years of education mean absolutely nothing, my experience is what is pushing me foward.

Certianly you need an education to get a job in a technical field....but the longer you work the more your experience will be the important thing.

And has someone who is in a position to hire, in my field and in my experience, education means nothing in the big picture..I have gotten just as much out of a Devry grad than i have a UofC grad....I look at experience over education and meeting the person is really the most important thing...

HR people who will weed out resumes based on where someone was educated should be fired, they arent doing there job...

Just thought I'd resurrect this bad-boy.

Having a terrible day with schoolwork. At U of C we have one week left, and this is the most coursework I have ever seen. Time to crack open the booze.

Yeah, I've had a fairly crazy semester here too, but it's finally starting to wind down a bit. I still have about 25 pages of writing to do this week and I am just not feeling it at all.

I thought you said "getting to that joint" just isn't working, so I wondered why the hell not.
