STP, the Flaming lips and Face to face are interesting, but as everyone has said ... This is a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT....

Don't come riding into our town on a chuckwagon with all this hoopla and then lay a rusted can of beans Branson on us!

All i can say is bring on Sled Island Fest. At least it lives up to its modest hype.

Nothing of interest to me. I may have gone to see QOTSA, but they aren't even going. Meh.

STP is cool, but the overall lineup is almost as bad as the V-fest in Vancouver last year.

It featured such huge names as Billy Talent and my Chemical Romance headlining day 1.

The Killers, AFI, and Hot Hot Heat were on day 2, but overall it was junk.

Pemberton... now taht is a festival

I'm confused how for some people, their level of satisfaction with the lineup is a function of the "hype" employed to announce it.

Maybe if my dad stood on the roof of a 7-11 and announced this show the whole city would be going bananas?

Not bad actually now that I see the full lineup. Undoubtedly better than any group bill Calgary has seen to date. You guys have high expectations.

I'm not sure if you will endear yourself by complaining, but anyway if V Festival Calgary is anything like festivals here then they will probably announce more acts in the weeks leading up to the concert. For the recent V Festival here for example, a bunch of bands including Modest Mouse, Hot Hot Heat, and Cansei de Ser Sexy were announced a month or two after the original lineup was released.

They confirmed that this was only a partial lineup release; there will be more in the coming weeks.

That said, I don't think you wait longer to release headlining bands. The best we get, me thinks, is probably some crappy band like Hoobastank (stink?)

Yeah I am aware. I saw them last time they were here in the fall so I thought I would skip that date. But if they were going to a festival I might be more inclined to go to the whole shindig.

Kings of Leon don't have anything booked that weekend, according to their website. That would sell me a ticket.

On the news tonight they had a music guy from the Sun and he said "not as big a lineup as Toronto or Baltimore but still a big deal". I looked at theirs and they have the Foo-Fighters and Oasis headlining. I know the Foo-Fighters are huge but Oasis?

We get the Stone Temple Pilots instead of Oasis, so I guess they are calling it "The Virgin Festival Washed-Up Saturday Night, brought to you by Tide" or something along those lines.

Huge, HUGE disappointment for me. I just saw it in Perth, and the headliner was Smashing Pumpkins, with Duran Duran and Queens of the Stoneage. I also saw Hot Hot Heat and Modest Mouse, so although the ticket price was $140, it was worth every penny (although I barely remember Smashing Pumpkins).

I'm not spending $75 to see STP and the Hip, who I've seen 6 times for half the price.

Unless a major headliner comes out of the woodwork (which I seriously doubt) I'll be spending my money at sledfest.

Michael Platt rants on the disappointing line up in today's Calgary Sun. First line is gold:

Isn't "Virgin" supposed to mean something that hasn't been done before?

LOL..the spokesperson says its a Killer lineup...what a joke. Ya, if I have to hear those bands anymore, I will literally want to roll over and die, thats for sure. I love how they justify by saying this is what Calgarians want. Perhaps the organizers were listening to the horrible and monotanous radio stations here in Calgary, hence they equated many of our radio stations playlist with what we wanted.

Of all the artists/bands available to the festival in other cities, this is what the citizens wanted to see? I highly doubt the announced bands were even mentioned as desired acts.

No line-up is going to please everyone. The alternatives listed in the article aren't any roaring hell either, or "something that hasn't been done before":

The Who, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Smashing Pumpkins, The Killers, Gnarls Barkley, Bjork, Arctic Monkeys, The Police, Beastie Boys, Modest Mouse, Amy Winehouse, Billy Talent and My Chemical Romance are all acts that have headlined past V-Fests.

Radiohead, Linkin Park, The Racontuers, Led Zeppelin, Coldplay, Jay-Z, Muse, REM, Brian Wilson --

I'd only want to see 4 of the other bands mentioned.

We could all list our personal "killer" line-up, and 95% of people will say it sucks.

I'd personally only go for STP and Matt Good . . . perhaps the Hip. Frankly I hate festivals like this. Perhaps I'm just getting too old but these drunk-fests just annoy me more than anything.

A big complaint seems to be that Calgary's headliners are yesterday's news, which is true, but half the bands on that list would have to be considered the same. A couple of them haven't even put out an album in 25 years.

I guess if I'd looked into it I would have known that the headliners are going to be, umm, old.
