Turn golf course area into lake community, build miliion dollar homes instead of 1400 cheaper homes to reduce population density, charge residents yearly fee.

In other words, those lights at Southcentre are far enough north that a lot of volume has either headed east or west by that point, so its a greatly reduced issue.
The entire problem in the deep SW is that we have only two ways out. Macleod and 22x. At this point 22x is virtually useless to all but a few. Macleod is not a lot better, but after those lights in particular you have some options.
Just to really win some friends here though, my other deep desire is to run 14th Street over Fish Creek and across into Evergreen. That's what ought to have happened years ago.
Between the Ring Road (which I would run through Lakeview if no deal gets made quickly), my planned blockade of Lake Fraser Gate and the 14th Street bridge I figure the south will be in reasonable shape trafficwise. Then we just need the 162ave overpass.

VICTORY!
I'm going to go ahead and take credit for the city deciding to make no left hand turns at Lake Fraser Gate between 6:30am and 8:30am beginning November 12th. In reality the fact that I couldn't ever get my alderman to sit down with me for even a coffee is irrelevant!
This is a long needed change for traffic flow on Macleod Trail, and I'm more thrilled about this than I really should be. I have no idea what I'll complain about now...this has been a severe frustration for me for a number of years!

How about the WB-SB traffic exiting Avenida? Will that light still turn green for them, or do they have to go down to Canyon Meadows?

I actually don't know. If they haven't made that the case though, then I will be disappointed and still have something to complain about!

Ahh so you mean assumptions.
If the home owners don't like it then they should buy the course.

Well this definitely makes me happy. Where exactly is the no left turn, onto south Macleod or onto lake Fraser gate? They should do both and make Macleod free flowing at that time. Those lights back everything up to the shawnessy overpass daily.
Next should be more no left turns between Chinook and downtown.

The no left turn is at all between 6:30-8:30am. So neither from southbound Macleod across nor from Lake Fraser Gate to head south on Macleod.
It should make a huge difference!

Didn't they try this before? I thought they had, but found that the lights helped "meter" the NB traffic a bit better. By effectively removing the light everything bottlenecks at 109th ave and then backs up past Lake Fraser.

I can't recall it being done. I've lived down here for well over a decade.
The thing is that it will back up at 109th more, but by then people can head east/west at Anderson. Thats why the deep south is a disaster, there is no other north/south and then no east/west until that point.

Yeah I just saw the sign on the way home today. Another one of those things that makes you wonder why it wasn't done sooner, but this really should help immensely. No lights from 162nd to Anderson is huge.

Removing one problem light just moves it to the next one. The nice thing is that the next light is far enough up the road that there is a good stretch that can handle some backup. The bottleneck over Fish Creek should run a bit smoother now in the morning with this change. Kudos to the City for doing this.

Probably a NIMBY freak out imaginary number? That's more than 7 people per unit (from the 1700 they mention).

Sucks to be them. They'll have to walk a whole extra couple blocks to Fish Creek Park for their valued green space. (Which they will still have separating them from the new housing, mind you!)

1700 houses? That seems like a lot for the area. I don't doubt that there's the space, including green space, but getting in and out of there is going to suck. My parents lived there backing on the golf course for 10 years, so I have a pretty good idea of what the traffic is like. Right now it's ok. With an extra 1700 cars, it'll be a sh*tshow. The lights by the Shell to get over to Banister Rd and onto McLeod is brutal when it's snowy/icy. The hill in front of the Shell is a skating rink every time it snows, so only a few cars get through the light per cycle. I imagine that one of the accesses to this new development would be where the Shawnee Slopes clubhouse is, so that could mean an extra 600 cars trying to get through that light on a weekday morning.
I suppose the other two entrances will be where the driving range is, and where the course crosses the road is, so the other 1100 cars would hit the lights in front of Fish Creek Station. That would be seriously annoying to be stuck in a line of traffic before you even leave your neighbourhood.
I don't think developing the land is a terrible idea, but I do think that some serious upgrades to the roads will be necessary. And I'm glad my parents got out before this decision was made, because I think a lot of people just saw their property values drop.
