He makes average movies good and good movies great. Johnny Depp has been one of my favourite actors

Exactly! Secret Window certainly wasn't one of my favourite movies but I enjyoed it because of how good Johnny Depp is in it, that and John Turturro is great as well.
Depp is currently filming a re-make of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, he is set to play Willy Wonka. I am looking forward to that movie.

My choices would be:
Lord of the ring.........snoooooooooze.
Kill Bill..........if it didn't have Tarantino's name on it it would've went straight to VHS. Pure crap.
The Passion; 2 hour long torture scene, terrible acting and camera work. You call that a movie Mel?
Mystic River; again a movie that got hype because of Clint Eastwood. Bad story, ok acting and just a silly ending. Eastwood should drop directing, he blows at it.

Lord of the Rings and Kill bill?
I Thought kill Bill was pretty good, but man lord of the rings is probably one of my favorite movies ever.

Actually Ray Liotta was in a very under-rated movie from last year called "Narc" with ummmmm....Jason Patric. Very good movie and Liotta was excellent in it. Check it out.

Good call, Narc was a very good movie. Ray Liotta was also in the underrated Identity with John Cusack. It came out in the summer of 2003 and not alot of people have seen it. Pretty good film, I would recommend it. [/b][/quote]
Yeah, Identity was under-rated. Had me guessing anyways. Good cast: Ray Liotta, John Cusak, Gary Busey's weird son (Jake?), and the guy from Scrubs (John McGinlley). Good movie.
I love threads like this.

I really liked identity but I wasn't a huge fan of the ending. It wasn't enough to spoil the rest of the movie for me however.
On Jodie Foster- The Accused and Silence of the Lambs are good enough for me to be a big fan of hers. Not that this matters for anything but she is a lesbian correct?

Anyone that didn't like Kill Bill or Lord of the Rings is on the exact opposite of the movie spectrum from me. I love these movies to death.

Honestly I can't think of a really good movie with her in it, maybe panic room although that was pretty stupid.
|
I'm not sure if you are going by the "past 10 years" thing, but she was in Taxi Driver, which is one of the all time greats and gives a free pass for many bad movies.
Ironically enough, the same applies to Ray Liotta, who was the star of the greatest movie (Goodfellas) and he ended up in a Silence of the Lambs flick that Jodie Foster wouldn't go near and a host of other crap movies. but Goodfellas gives him a free pass.

Yeah he's been in some good movies but also some really crappy ones
(Operation: Dumbo Drop). Copland was another good movie as well as Blow. But, he's been in some clunkers. Can't win 'em all though.
On a related note... The Sopranos last night was probably 50 minutes long (+ commercials) and it was as good as almost any movie, better than most. That show rules. It was the episode where Artie Bucco gets conned by the French guy and the car saleswoman offs herself. I know it's not a movie but what the hell, it's like a great, brand new movie every Sunday night

Ray Liotta was in John Q. He wasn't spectacular, but the movie was pretty good.

And here I was coaxing through life thinking I was the only one who liked Copland. Its a pretty underrated film with a damn good cast.

I think he's a great actor but he has been in some bad films -- sorta like Jodie Foster. They've both been in movies that are among my all-time favorites, so I guess my point (if it exists at all) is that after they've been in such great movies, whatever they do after seems kinda lame.
Speaking of Copland -- Robert Patrick (the T-1000 from T2) is in the same predicament. T2was a great movie and then he was in bad movies mostly. Of course he was in the Sopranos for a season so my theory doesn't really hold water, but it does make a nice little circle and brings me back to my original theory, which I can't remember.
