I've still got a copy of TTDX kicking around on my hard drive. Doesn't get fired up very often on account of RailRoad Tycoon 3, but man was that ever a good game. Although upgrading to monorail was impossible if cities had expanded over even a little of your track.

- The Syndicate (EA, early 90's - PC)
- TA (Total Anihilation PC - first time a game like that had hills that affect view and movement of units and forests that would burn with the wind and uphill, and with IP direct multiplayer and 1000's of user maps... I think I will go home and install it... lol)
- Shadow Run (SuperNES - I loved this game, after beating it it teased about Shadow Run 2 - I'm still upset it never happened)
- Baldurs Gate (PC) - still probably the best PC D&D/forgotten Realms game going
- Super Mario 3 - (NES - ofcourse) how can you not love this game??
honorable mention to EA's NHL sport franchise especially 93' on the PC as it got me hooked.
oh ya Quake world was pretty cool too... 4 way online capture the flag... I could snipe for hours....
oh and I spent many hours playing Rainbow six - rogue spear - not sure if that makes it an all timeer or not

I think the problem with naming only 5 games is that there are so many other games that get left behind. I've probably owned or played a thousand games in my lifetime, and I go through this list and see so many games that were really great but I'd forgotten about them, and now I want to play them again.
Elite was an excellent game, and I always ended up on the wrong side of the law once I got long range military lasers where I could kill stuff before I knew what it was
Master of Orion 1 and 2 were outstanding games, but I always played as the Melkers because they had creativity in thier research
Anyone remember Space Flight 1 and 2?
I love the entire GTA series, but I really enjoyed the first two 2d lookdown games with very little in the way of character development or plot lines.

I'd have to go oldschool for the absolute BEST games that can stand the test of time...
1) All of the Sierra Quest series
2) Duke Nukem 3D
3) The Incredible Machine
4) Red Alert II
5) Civilization II
Honorable mentions to Syndicate, Myst, Dark Forces, Shadow President, Rise of the Triad, Descent, Cannon Fodder, Spy Hunter, Tie Fighter, Lemmings, Full Throttle, the Monkey Island series, Day of the Tentacle, Fallout, the Leisure Suit Larry series, Quake, and Half Life.
God, there are so many great games that could just make that list as well...
Oh, I want to put top 5 console games as well:
1) River City Ransom (NES)
2) Chronotrigger (SNES)
3) Gran Turismo II (PSX)
4) Goldeneye (n64)
5) Champions: Return to Arms (PS2)

I'm shocked and appauled that with all the CS fans, no one has broken out the "Boom! Headshot!" yet
What's the first video game you remember playing? For me it's somewhere along the lines of Lode Runner for my Commodore VIC20 or this typing game on my old amber-screen 8088

Forbiden forest for my Commodore 64 was a cool game.
You had a bow and arrow and you were running through the woods killing monsters and demons, the big boss was Satan, you had to hit him like a thousand times but he was invisible and you could only see him when the lightning struck.
The funny thing was that the game was on a tape, and it took a good 20 minutes to load the game

I remember playing Winter Games on c64, as well as Persian Gulf Inferno and Wayne Gretzky's Hockey.
First game I can remember though there are two - The Black Cauldron, and Cross Country Canada which was an AMAZING kids game.

Have you tried OpenTTD? It's an open-source version of TTD that has a very good active development community; they've tweaked a lot of the bugs regarding gameplay including upgrading and such... and allows for you to play absolutely massive map sizes. But you need the original graphics set to play it.

In no particular order
For Atari:
- defender
- pitfall
For old c64 games:
- ultima 3,4,5
- gemstone warrior (I think that was the name)
- ssi d&d games (pool of radiance, curse of azure bonds)
Modern Gaming:
- Fallout 2 (one of my all time faves)
- Fallout 1
- Baldur's Gate 2
- Age of Mythology with Titan's Expansion
- Titan's Quest (kind of glichy though)
- Planetscape Torment (very original game)
I'm still looking forward to playing Elder Scrolls IV (sitting on my shelf), which seems to be popular among other people here. I am also looking forward to playing Arcanum (older game) which I'm surprised no one mentioned.

Now THAT was a computer game! I remember delivering cement and beef from Calgary across the prairies, and delivering potash to Churchill, Manitoba.
Remember that little trick? If you drive to Flin Flon and the winter road is closed to Churchill, just typ in "c" to continue driving in the same direction and you could get there no problem! lol....

I'll have to check that out when I get some time. Have they done anything to improve the AI?
