Movies that made you cry

I bawl for Field of Dreams every time.

Another that gets me is Legends of the Fall. A few times in that movie when people close to Tristan (Brad Pitt) are killed. And the scene near the end when a gunshot from nowhere saves certain death brings out the hankey too.

There's only one movie that's ever made me actually shed tears, "The Champ" a 1979 remake of a film that originally came out in 1931.
It stars Jon Voight, Ricky Schroeder and Faye Dunaway.

I was nine years old when I first saw it...it made me cry then, and any time I've seen it since...I still well up.

It's a pretty good film, but ridiculously tear jerking. Ricky Schroeder does a fantastic job, I think he was only nine years old at the time as well.

I would recommend it to anyone who likes the sad films.

Interesting thread! I consider myself a sensitive guy, and I've been "choked up" many times. However, I've only cried twice.

Boys Don't Cry--one other person mentioned this one. Ironic title given the thread, I guess--but a gut-wrenchingly tragic movie.

The other one was United 93, which a few people have mentioned. In this case, I think it had a lot to do with the verisimilitude--knowing that it was about real people, and relatively speaking, real events. (let's not rehash that whole topic--I do realize that some people disagree). Seeing the people talking on their cell phones knowing that some people actually did call loved ones from the planes....

Someone (can't remember who) mentioned feeling "numb." I think I cried through the second half of the movie, and afterwards felt like I had no emotional strength left for even the smallest feeling. If that makes me a sissy, so be it. (But rubecube--my wife likes me this way. Sorry.)

Braveheart - not sure if it's my Scottish decent...but the scene when he was getting tortured always gets to me

Shawshank - Get busy living, or get busy dying...

Saving Private Ryan - Scene when fish (the jewish soldier) gets it from the nazi while Uppam (sp?) was too chicken to save him..

Million Dollar Baby - all you had to do was move the stool in time Clint!

Tears of Joy when Nacho Libre flew threw the air to take down Ramses!!!!

Schindlers List was a big tear jerker too because of the girl in the red jacket.

I remember getting all watery eyed as a kid too because of that same scene in The Neverending Story. Still one of my favorite movies to this day.

Another sad part is when the Rockbiter is sitting and just waiting for the Nothing to take him, and lamenting that he couldn't do anything to save his little friends, the Nighthob and the Snail Racer.

Yeah, that part of the movie tore me up when I was a kid:

Just watched one last night that suprised the hell out of me and choked me up a few times. It's new out on video, and it's called "The Holiday". Get this one fellas, and you're scoring huge brownie points with the wife/girl friend!

I got really choked up at the Mount Doom scene in Return of the King when Sam was on that ledge with frodo and everything was burning up I bawled like a baby...another one I can't help but bawling at is the last scene in Breakfast at Tiffanies, when Holly throws cat(poor no name slob) out of the taxi and Paul hops out to go find it..man does that get to me.

Dances with Wolves gets me every single time and it is the only movie to ever make me cry. Knowing that the great frontier is no longer there and will never return is a very harsh reality and one I find extremely sad.

A bit off-topic, but related to The Day After - has anyone seen the British movie Threads about a post-nuclear society? Not as tear jerking as The Day After, but very frightening. I think it came out before The Day After and was much darker.

Clint Eastwood (directed) movies tend to choke me up - Million Dollar Baby, Mystic River, A Perfect World in particular. Also Breakfast Club, for some reason.

For TV, I can't watch the scene in MASH where Radar announces in the operating room that Henry Blake died without tearing up.

That was actually a great movie. I really enjoyed seeing that one. Jude Law was supurb and Jack Black was as hilarious as I always find him. Kate Winslit and Cameron Diaz were fantastic as well. Just a great flick all around.

I did see the british version and it was very well done. I can't remember what the movie was called, but there was a subplot involving a newly wed couple.

I can't believe it's gotten only one mention in 5 pages, but "I am Sam" is the only movie that I actually tear up in. I get choked up a lot in movies, but no other movie has made me tear up. I've seen that movie about 10 times, and every time I need to grab a Kleenex. To me, there's not much more powerful than the love between a father and a daughter.

Speaking of MASH...the series finale made be weep....and I mean weep. I watched it again years later and I weeped again. Probably the greatest TV series ever made.

For me it was at the very end of Return of the King when Aragorn says to the 3 hobbits "Friends you bow to no one..."

As for pooch movies, I saw Old Yeller mentioned. Another blubber-inducer: I saw Where the Red Fern Grows amidst a whole slew of weeping kids at North Hill when when it first came out. I watched it again as an adult and.........................it still made me cry.
