I thought I would chime in with my 2 cents.
This song sounds just like previous Nickelback singles, nothing new. They have indeed found a formula that gives them continued success. But success is not a measure of good music. I think a part of being a good band is to evolve, which is something that Nickelback has not done. The reason they have had success is because their sound appeals to wide scope of people. They are not to heavy or not too indie or whatever. They have a very commerical appeal.
I have a decidely heavier taste in music, so Nickelback is not up my alley. With that said I use to work at the saddledome as an usher and I've seen Nickelback in concert twice. The first time was their first concert in the saddledome. I've seen a couple dozen concerts at the saddledome and this one was of most enjoyable to watch. Nickelback actually wanted to be there. Which most bands who come here don't, they just play their set and leave. The lead singer said he saw his first concert ever here, which was Metallica. They were more interactive with the crowd than any band I've seen at the dome. Despite my taste in music, they put on a good concert. I am sure the Nickelback fans that went enjoyed it immensely. Their concert was along the same lines but feature a dualing dumb solo with the singer. That guy cannot play the drums to save his life.
After seeing the concery would I got buy their album? No. But they did gain some respect in my books. They have lots to gain as they are perpetuators of mediocrity.
