But yes, 300 Spartans against a million? Just no.
The point of the story of Themoplyae is that a small force can defeat a big force using terrain, training and good tactics. Not that 300 Spartans defeated an army of a million. That's just ludicrous. Remember, the victors write history so the Spartans would have had well enough opportunity to fudge those numbers a bit.

They should have called it "How a small force can defeat a big force using terrain, training and good tactics" instead of "300" then.

You should make a thread about how the comic book writes the story wrong instaed of talking about the movie, then.

one time i saw a movie about how this guy was giving away these visits to his chocolate factory and one by one he ruined the lives of all the winners because of their various personality flaws until only this kid named Charlie is left and he gets the factory and they fly into space on a glass elevator
it turns out that movie wasn't even REAL

Surely, YOU JEST!?!
300 was an awesome movie, based SOMEWHAT on actual events... but clearly spiced up to have it appear like a typical Greek Myth.

People who didn't like the movie are "wanna-be elitist film critics" then?

Talk about over reaction. People are acting like this movie is their baby. I just took issue with the comment that the circumstances about the battle was depicted exactly by this movie.
Then I get a bunch of wikipedia links proving nothing.
Never-the-less, I never said it was an awful movie.

Geez, don't be a baby and whine about it.

Are you serious? We were just pointing out some inconsistencies with your comments, and you say we're over reacting? For the record, I do agree with you on some points of the movie, but heaven forbid if someone should help you along the way.

It's a dramatic movie, not a historical documentary. Your arguments have no bearing on 300 since it's goal was never to depict historical accuracy. You really should change your avatar to the Comic Book Store Guy...
I usually don't like relying on wikipedia, but in this case the article seems very well researched and written. I provided the link to further discussion about the interesting story that serves to frame the movie.
All I suggest is if you enjoy epic movies, 300 is the best one released in quite some time. Techinically, it is also one of the most impressive movies I've seen. Apparently nearly 90% of it was shot infront of a green screen, 10% shot in front of a blue screen with one shot outside the soundstage. It was also almost entirely shot in Montreal.

What's the difference between a blue and a green screen?

They are different colours... really, that's the difference. It's used to film scenes that are later composited into a final cut. To accomplish this, they use a technique that subsitutes colours, usually blue or green. In the case of 300, they used a green sceen because the red caps looked sharper and it fit the colour scheme they were going for.
I'd source all this, but I read it a few days ago and don't remember the link.
If anyone is interested, here is a link that explains it:

Its a way of imaging special effects, seemingly using colour filters (think: complex mathematical algorithms, probalby spacial fourier transforms) for image processing. It seems like the contrast enables you to remove unwanted black lines and such. When you do image processing, blue's wavelength is in the 450nm range, while green is in the 550nm range, green is sampled twice as often to give you better picture resolution. Green also has a higher luminecense density (wavelength weighted power), ie. how much power you can get over that wavelenght's spectral range, making it easier to get better picture resolution when you perform image processing on it, aka. spacial fourier transforms.

Well, I have to be brutally honest about this one. That is probably one of the worst movies I've ever seen, IMHO. I'm not mad about it, though - I thought it was unintentionally pretty funny.
...And I'm a stick in the mud. I was never a comic book fan, so maybe that's why I didn't enjoy it.
Hakan, we probably see eye-to-eye on this one, so I'd say wait until it comes out on video.

You guys are all missing a very VERY vital point in this argument. The Movie is NOT based on the Battle of Thermopylae, it is based on the GRAPHIC NOVEL about the Battle of Thermopylae...
Frank Miller said numerous times that it was based loosely on the Greek Myth, but changed in places to be more entertaining..
GREAT MOVIE, imo!!!
