Some oldies, some of which pop up now and again on the cable dial.
Among others:
Rockford Files
Bizarre
Live it Up
(as already mentione) Definition
SCTV
Liar's Club (new one, late 80's).
Switchback
Spelling Bee
Big Blue Marble
Video Hits (Samantha Fox, Stu Jeffries)
Kidstreet
And, I can't believe I still remember this one, but the game show, Pitfall. It only ran 1 year, when I was 5 years old. But I do remember it. I don' remember that it was hosted by Alex Trebeck.
Google it.

Whos liine is it anyway... and the drew carey show.
Drew Carey. Funny, funny guy.
Remember the episode where his girlfriend put that enormous dildo in his carry on luggage?
Oh god... When he pulled that thing out... The looks on his face... I laughed so hard I missed the rest of the episode.

And it's been mentioned several times, but WKRP is probably one of the best all-time. It's a shame you can't get those on DVD, because I would pick that up for sure.

I thought it was a great show, really quirky. Definitely like Tom Cavannah. Last I heard (and this was awhile ago so maybe things have changed), they were having troubles with securing the music rights so it's not on DVD. Seems a lot of great shows are being kept off DVD because of music rights. It's too bad.
And 4X4, good call on Drew Carey. I always liked that show. Not towards the end though, when they kept changing it around to recapture ratings.
Also his stand up act was pretty good. I loved The Human Cartoon, one of my favourite comedian specials.

a few people haven't mentioned yet:
All in the Family - was off the air before I was born, but my God it makes me laugh
dueSouth - a polite Mountie working in the USA, the stereotypes, the variations, Dief, I loved that show
High Incident - was an ABC cop show that was on opposite Friends, was officially cancelled on my birthday, there will always be a part of me that hates Friends for getting my cop show cancelled. It was a drama but with so much comic relief you wouldn't know it.
Made in Canada - ok this was mentioned but in the post "I hope it's as good as it sounds". I loved the mini-series, when they made it an actual show, meh. But the mini-series was amazing.
I could sit back and watch the old cartoons again:
Ghostbusters
Teddy Ruxpin
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (the real one not the new stupid one)
Tiny Toon Adventures
Anyone remember the game show Classic Concentration?

CMT for some reason plays re-runs of Ed on Saturday nights. Not sure how it fits in with Country Music programming but...regardless I liked Ed a lot, though I didn't think the final season was really that great.

No, it definitely started falling down towards the end, I thought.
When it was good I thought it was fantastic. I couldn't believe it that no one else had ever seen the bloody show any time I'd ask someone.

I will try not to get to ancient here;
Mary Tyler Moore show was wonderful,if you have a gal, watch some with her.
Same as my favorite movie, Anne of Green Gables. LOL
The Rockford Files is just such a good hero,I can always watch Jim.
Or away back, b&w.Bounty Hunter with Steve McQueen.
Mash and Newhart are terrific too.
Cheers of course, and WKRP and Taxi and I am forgetting many ,... what was the question? ......?

Well thanks for all of the suggestions everyone. I picked up Firefly today after everyone here and other critics gave it such good reviews. I'm looking forward to watching it.
There are some British shows that nobody has mentioned or perhaps know about, in case anyone's interested (Not all are available over here on DVD but might be on VHS):
Blackadder
Blake's 7
A Touch of Frost
Hamish McBeth (Robert Carlyle)
All Creatures Great and Small
MI-5 (or Spooks as it was called in England)
The Hitchhikers Guide to the galaxy (The BBC show not the crappy movie)
Only Fools and Horses
Auf Wiederschen Pet
The Brittas Empire
The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin
Jeeves and Wooster
Keeping Up Appearances
The Kumars at No. 42
Monty Python's Flying Circus
The New Statesman
One Foot in the grave
Porridge
Red Dwarf
The Royle Family
Yes Minister and Yes Prime Minister
and Fawlty Towers of course.

dito for:
space above and beyond - great show, great premise, great action, great effects for the time. what was the problem?
firefly - same as above but perhaps the greatest tv idea ever, limitless possibilities. unbelievable. too good for tv. in fact a major reason i don't watch much of it anymore.
the job - this show was totally brilliant. hilarious and leary's anti-hero was spot-on with a real life cop, a flawed flawed man.
not mentioned:
erie indiana - a very strange show that had some crazy happenings, very odd and very charming
the time has clearly come for pay-per-view productions that cut television and the ridiculous corporate subculture, completely out of the loop for good. one look at futurama, and how good it was compared to how terrible the simpsons got right then, is all you need to look at - groening has had major behind-the-scenes rows with fox over these two shows.
