Friday with Ice Cube. Total college movie but laughed my ass off when someone from Texas showed it to me.
Next Friday sucked badly though.

Clay Pigeons....Seems whenver I talk to someone about it they haven't seen it. Yeah, there's the Montana thing that hooks me of course, but the acting is great and the dark comedy is as well. Outstanding performance by Vince Vaughn.
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly....Brilliant in every single aspect. My all time favorite movie and one that is often dismissed as an afterthought because it falls into the 'Spaghetti Western' category. The scene at the end when they arrive at the cemetary is one of the greatest pieces of cinematography/scoring EVER. IMHO.

I have to go with David Lynch's Eraserhead. It's the only move that really creeps me out. I almost wish he would remake it.
More recently, I thought Jarhead deserved more acclaim. I think a lot of people missed the point in that movie. The whole dream sequence with Nirvana's "Something in the Way" playing in the background, ending with the vomiting of sand.... I was pretty impressed.

I agree. I thought it was really funny, but definitely not conventionally.

Asian sports announcer? Asian Howard Cosell, complete with yellow blazer. Huge difference and infinitely more funny if you have that frame of reference!
Great movie.

I will throw out big seconds to Kalifornia and Snatch.
Kalifornia...if you are one of those people who think Brad Pitt is nothing more than a face watch this movie. He's brilliant in it.
Snatch...so damn funny, Pitt is hilarious in it.
There are 20 other movies in this thread I agree with but not sure they are as underrated as the 4 I mentioned.
MMF has great taste in movies. I'm not sure he's ever posted something in a movie thread that I disagreed with!

The Man Who Wasn't There - a Cohen brothers movie with Billy Bob Thornton. I'll add Barton Fink and Fargo and cosign the Big Lebowski because I love Cohen brothers movies
Don Juan de Marco - pretty cheesy, but you can't go wrong with Johnny Depp and Marlon Brando

I wondered if The Big Lebowski counts as underrated. I mean...I don't see anyone could not love that movie, but it didn't do good at the box office. Anyone, if you haven't seen it, watch it.
Office space is in the same category. It was a strange one. I never heard of it, saw it at Blockbuster, and thought "What the hell...". It was GREAT. How come I never heard of it? Of course, as mentioned, everyone has also since discovered it. I'd love to see an Office Space 2: Return of the Stapler.

I am sure most haven't heard of the movie "Paradise Now", but I watched it last night on DVD and it was a great movie. It's filmed in Arabic and it's about 2 would be suicide bombers who have to go to Tel Aviv. It's quite an eye opener how different things are in the Palestine area compared to Isreal. It was quite the culture shock for me when I was watching the movie. They showed the neighborhoods in the West Bank and area and you can tell they are very poor and then they showed Tel Aviv. Big Samsung billboards, designer shopping areas, fancy cars, girls in bikinis...
And the acting, I thought was brilliant. You guys have to check out this movie.

I hate that movie too, although it's been awhile since I've seen it. I actually don't know if I hate it or if it annoys me that people find it deep and powerful.

I love that movie, best I've seen all year I think.
As for the underated movies, Heavyweights is a classic kids comedy, definitely funnier than your average.

Coffee and Cigarettes was great, not too many liked it but I found it hilarious. I think my favorite scene was with Cate Blanchet playing herself and her cousin. The one with Alfred Molina and Steve Coogan was pretty funny as well.

Favreau wrote and co-produced Swingers but it was Doug Liman who directed the movie. I loved Swingers but I didn't think too much of Made, IMO they over played the character relationship from Swingers so much that it became tiresome.

Rented it last night, and being familiar with M.Night's movies, I expected a surprise ending, but when it came down to the last 10 minutes and nothing happened, I figured this movie was one where he didn't have a twist. Then the last 5 mins hit, and it all made sense. Great ending, and totally unexpected. Good movie overall...and one of a handful where Bruce Willis' hasn't played the typical tough guy.

You know, I actually hated Signs so much. I was really ****ed off when that alien, who was capable of jumping over a house, got trapped in the closet and, despite his best efforts, could NOT find a way to kick down that door.
I also hated that they would come down to our planet without some kind of suit on. The earth is seventy-****ing-percent covered in water. That's like humans stepping onto the moon with no oxygen tank. I mean, come on. Advanced alien technology can't give you an accurate read of the presence of a substance deadly to your species that's covering the planet you want to invade!? Everybody has running water in their house!? And what happens if it rains!?
Sorry guys, I really hated signs.
