My personal opinion is that so long as one does not speed up, slow down, swerve, or otherwise go out of their way to hit a person, they should be able to mow down any idiot who jaywalks, and for the jaywalker to be held liable for the accident and all costs related. Course, that is my perfect world, not the real world.
If you ever want to see pedestrian culture at its worst, spend an hour at the intersections along 61st Avenue around Chinook LRT. Nothing but a litany of idiots and a-holes who feel they have the right to not only cross at any time they want, but to block and otherwise interfere with traffic in any way they want. The city could park one cop there every day and make a million dollars a year fining those morons.
I can't overstate how annoyed I am at the City for putting up those "yield to pedestrians" signs around that area. Why not a "don't cross on the red or you deserve to die" signs for the idiots who think sneakers makes them immune?
Of course, for the complete opposite problem, there is the intersection of 68th and Elbow, where the worlds dumbest drivers congregate and generally believe that pedestrians legally crossing in a marked crosswalk should get the hell out of their way.

Didn't start lipping him off until after he had written the ticket of the $25 variety, and not the $65 variety.
grabbed the ticket, then spouted off.

I was gonna rant, but it's just not worth it. But I do have to say how classless it is to give a cop attitude cause you did something wrong.

He was just doing his job. You broke the law. What gave you the right to lip him off? Talk about a thankless job.

Nope, I have, but I have never been so stupid as to get caught by a cop, and if I did, I wouldnt mouth the cop off for doing their job then run to a message board looking for a hug...

Don't jay-walk
I rarely ever do it, for whatever reason, though obviously everyone does it the occasional time, but in most cases, I just never risk it, I'm never in enough of a hurry that I can't wait the extra 2 minutes or whatever.

It's not just the mouthing off, it's the comment that there are better things the cop could have been doing, like catching murderers and rapists. That is such a stupid argument it isn't even funny.
Everyone has broken the law in some way in their lives, it's just about taking responsibility for your own actions if you get caught.

I J-walk. I also speed a bit too.
I've never gotten a J-walking ticket, but if I do I will just mutter to myself for a bit (because I'm the one to blame.)
Last speeding ticket I got I thanked the cop. I think my exact words were "Thanks. Well, not thanks, but you know, thanks." (with the tone of not thanks for the ticket, but thanks for doing your job.)
I'm not sure about how the police force works, but every job I've ever done there is always one shinguard task that has to be done. At my current job we work in rotation so not everybody has to do it at once. I would imagine this guy didn't aspire to be a J-walking enforcer; but rather does this as part of a rotation.
Of course this morning when I was looking for it- I was forced to stop my car 3 times to let a J-walker by in front of me.

This is actually a rather entertaining thread.
I was going to post something earlier but really, incognito can't stop making a fool of himself.
It appears he really doesnt understand why society has created laws and further, that these laws apply to EVERYONE.
Read over your orgininal post and ask yourself how u are taking responsibility. Your intention here was to get some form of comfort or justification for your own stupidity- and you did it in the most classless, cowardly way possible, by insulting another person.
There is no such thing as 'j-walking' patrol... those bike cops play a huge part in combatting crime in the inner core... in addition to writing ignorant pricks like yourself, j-walking tickets.

Yes. J-walk patrol. As in a cop who earns his quota by hanging out at intersections to stop "law-breakers" who cross a road (that they paid for with their own tax dollars) where they want.
Despite my derogatory comments of the cop (which I will hold to), my main problem is not him. It is the law. It is a load of crap, imo.
If a Jwalker causes an accident. Their fault. If a J-walker impedes cars? Run'em over, honk your horn. Whatever.
I just prefer not having bylaws dictating in which direction I should wipe my ass.

Read some bylaw's before you start spouting off... would you like it if you neighbors yard had 3 foot weeds and garbage piled everywhere? How bout if they had bonfires until 4 AM every morning?
Maybe thats when you would like bylaws dictating which way they can wipe their ass(es).

So what you are suggesting is that I somehow "police" what the J-walkers do.
Funny, I thought that's why the city has a police force.
It's very simple, if you don't like the law, then go ahead and try to get it changed.

Perhaps the cop on the bike doing "j-walk" patrol is a new cop and is working his way up. Everybody has to start at the bottom at some point...

Because he couldn't have done anything after you started "spouting off"?

Common sense should dictate. When no cars around, go ahead and cross the street. (jaywalk). When cars around cross at the crosswalk. As far as giving out tickets for failing to yield to a pedestrian, I have mixed feelings. A pedestrian should in no way be put in danger when crossing at a crosswalk. However, as the law reads now a car cannot cross the crosswalk while the pedestrian is in the crosswalk no matter where the pedestrain is. So you can get a ticket for crossing the crosswalk in your vehicle when the pedestrain is already half way accross. This does nothing to expedite traffic problems.
Also it ticks me off when pedestrians take there sweet ass time to cross, counting the cracks in the road while they are crossing. HURRY UP!!
