Pretty pricey, but since it includes Blu-ray, I wonder how it will compare to the 360 with the HD-DVD that was just announced (pricewise I mean). It will be interesting to see how it sells.

they are also releasing 2 versions... 1 with everything and and 2nd without the ability to read USB drives/SD/Flash cards, and no HDMI output.

and only 20GB HD instead of 60GB.

4 Million units available by Dec 31. I wonder if that will slow down people from 'flipping' units.

Looks like it's sticking to PC for me until there's a price drop. I just dont have that type of dough especially when I still plan to do most of my gaming on the PC and only want a console to play the games I cant on PC.

Not bad...not great pricing.

some people say its high, but if 360 owners ante up for the HD-DVD peripheral, then the prices are a lot closer.

I've heard the PS3 is supposed to have TiVo capabilities, so that would be a very good thing...

I still think it'll come down to the games - right now 360 has 2 games I want to play: Halo3 and Gears of War (Oblivion is going to be ported onto the PS3)...so all the other games I want will either be exclusive to PS3 or have PS3 versions.

I'll probably stick with PS3 - the Warhawk demonstration using the 6 axis motion sensor controller looked pretty cool...

I thought the ps2 was about 450 when it came out? Still, watching a clip of the E3 sony wrap up makes me think that it will own 360...

watch the clip and let me know what people think...

edit: the "naughty dog" and the "8 days" clips near the end of the clip look totally amazing...Metal Gear Solid 4 clip will be coming up tomorrow, so I'll post a link to it...supposed to be 15 minutes long...

Keep in mind last year at this time everyone was fawning over the Fight Night demo and how PS3 was going to own the 360. Turned out the game is just as impressive on the 360 as what Sony showed in that demo. Also keep in mind that Sony usually underdelivers on their promises and in fact the outputs and what not are drastically reduced from what they were saying at this time last year.

It will come down to games and I guarantee 360 will have just as impressive games coming out. Deverlopers are unanimous in saying the powere betweent he two systems is pretty much equal, but that the 360 is muych easier to program for. 360 will also have 10-11 million out there by then as well...they will hardly be owned.

well, I guess we'll just have to keep this thread alive then won't we?

we'll see whether or not the actual gameplay is better-they've got 6 more months to refine things, so comparing the actual 360 to Sony's dev kit is a bit premature...

Personally, I think Sony will win this and outsell 360 particularly in the beginning...who knows, i could be wrong...

oldschool, i wouldn't be surprised. in japan it seems that all attempts from microsoft to insert the 360 into the gaming culture has not worked. IIRC there were a lot of unsold shipments in japan as compared to in NA, this is probably due to the fact that japan would rather have the ps3, supporting sony.

Meanwhile, from the sounds of things, Nintendo Wii is stealing the show. There are 2 hour lineups to play their demos.

no question - in terms of Buzz, Nintendo has won E3...That being said, I am going to wait a while and see more gameplay from the PS3 before making any decisions...

Ultimately, it will come down to the games in determining the winner...I have to admit, Gears of War looks pretty awesome for 360...but PS3 has some sweet looking games too...

And this is where I get off the PS3 bandwagon.

I've figured that the console was going to be pretty expensive, but I had a lot of hope for the long term viability of the cell processor. And the inclusion of the hi-def DVD player was what I would use as my final excuse to purchase one.

Then came the whole Sony root-kit debacle. And Sony had always been notorious for proprietary formats (ATRAC anyone?).

Now the Blu-ray Disk Association has announced their choice of DRM.
Blu-ray makes unexpected, three-way DRM choice for high-def DVD

Quote:
In an announcement last night, the Blu-ray Disc Association, led by Sony, representing one of two competing high-definition DVD formats, stated it will simultaneously embrace digital watermarking, programmable cryptography, and a self-destruct code for Blu-ray disc players.
Quote:
This controversial technology would require that disc players maintain permanent connections to content providers via the Internet, making it possible for discs that fail a security check to trigger a notification process, enabling the provider to send the player a sort of "self-destruct code." This code would come in the form of a flash ROM "update" that would actually render the player useless, perhaps unless and until it is taken to a repair shop for reprogramming.
Sony used to be a company that could engineer good products. Now they are a content creation company that is using their engineering side to attempt to protect their content.

I will no longer even consider the possibility of a PS3.

Edit: and of course, I just noticed the date on the article
I'll have to dig around and see if anything has changed...

damn disappointing to read that...I am a hardcore playstation user, but if it comes with DRM, screw them. I WILL NOT buy anything that requires a constant connection to the internet in order for me to play movies or games THAT I HAVE BOUGHT!

##### SONY.

update:

other articles are saying NO DRM for PS3 now...http://www.playfuls.com/news_3827.html

I guess we'll have to see, but its one thing to pay 650 bucks for a PS3, its another thing to pay that 650 AND be saddled with DRM...

If sony goes with DRM, I'll laugh my ass off 'cause I'll bet that half the people considering it will DROP it due to DRM.

Nintendo Wiiiiiiiiiiiii for me!
