We are winning because our young players are stepping up. Wolf has been great lately and Cooley was tonight. Gridin looks like our most talented forward. Coronato is on fire and playing way better. Frost is stepping up big time since the Kadri trade. Parekh has been night and day compared to the beginning of the season and keeps improving. Bru has looked great. Gross was winning faceoffs and did not look out of place.

It is one thing to be negative when you have a bunch of vets winning us games who aren't in the long term plans. But legit all of our young players are playing great right now. How can I possibly be mad at that?

Things will even out during the rest of the season. We will lose lots of games because of the talent level after all the trades. But I think we can be happy with what we have seen lately.
I think it shows that the locker room is mentally healthy despite how tough the season was for the most part. In order to truly tank like how the Canucks have where they barely give an eff anymore, you need to have some locker room issues, which is not something you ever want because it's a hard thing to get rid of. Short of trading for a locker room cancer who could demoralize the young players, I think Conroy did everything he could to try and improve the lottery odds. There also seems to be some accidental addition by subtraction happening after trading some of the veterans.

I will add Wyttenbach to that potential.
Let the guy play a pro game before you saddle him.

He could be be next Rico Fata...

This is such a likable group of guys. Can't be disappointed that they're winning.

You're the one with the bad and delusional take. Look at the Flames record - one of the worst teams in the league. If you think this little 3 game winning streak suddenly means the Flames are good, not only are you wrong, it is your mindset that has kept this team in mediocrity for decades on end.

And by the way mr smarty pants, most of the players you named have been playing for the Flames all season. So why is the Flames record what it is? Oh wait, do you think Kadri Weegar and Andersson were dragging the team down?

Thankfully the top of this draft is 5 or 6 players deep. We're probably not getting a top 3 pick now.

You asked me a question. I answered it. I'm not sure what you're going on about on now, but I hope you have a nice night and a pleasant tomorrow

Gridin will be our best forward next year.

Dump high priced players. Check

Play better. Check.

Move up into mushy middle again? TBD

No you didn't. I said "who's winning games for us right now" not "who's helping us right now". Note the difference. If we were staring to come out of a rebuild, we'd have ELITE players WINNING games with elite plays. Instead we have a bunch of guys playing above their season norms, making contributions, and it's adding up to some wins. That kind of thing can work in short bursts, but isn't sustainable.

The team isn't good. They're just going through a good stretch of hockey against some tired teams. Every team has stretches like this.

So nice of you to put words in my mouth, multiple times misrepresent what I say, then act all coy about it.

If we end up with Viggo I’ll be ecstatic. I think he’s right there with Stenberg as far as talent goes. If he was an inch taller he’d be in the conversation for top 3.

Finishing bottom 2 is significantly better odds at a top 3 pick, the first ever for the team.
Current position puts the Flames 80% likely to draft 4-6th.

Can't help but love these efforts but man will this difference suck.
The 6 game road trip will be hard games though, so we'll see what happens.

In fact, the odds said the Flames were never likely to get a top 3 pick. Unless somehow Vancouver wins a game or 10.

Finishing 2nd last would have given the Flames a better than 50/50 shot at a top 3 pick. Looks like poof, that's gone now.

I still want to just talk people off the ledge here. Yes, we have won 3 in a row. But they are not going to keep winning.

Bad teams go on hot streaks all the time for a few games, then suddenly will lose the next 4. I still think the Flames finish 2nd or 3rd last.

I don't think that's how the odds work.

And if we don't finish bottom 2, it is likely because of the young players continuing to play well.

I would certainly take Gridin becoming a franchise winger and Parekh a franchise defenseman over having them completely struggle and not knowing if either player will be an NHLer going into next season.

But also, there are still 12 games left. We are tied for 2nd last. We could still finish the year 2nd last so I am not going to overreact to one winning streak. Every team has streaks where they win 3 in a row (well, except Edmonton).

ChatGPT told me the second last team has a 40% chance. The last place team has a 49% chance.

Flames appear to have graduated three home grown defenseman this season.

Kuz, Bruz and Zayne

Not only that but they traded away Ras and Weegar for a bunch of futures, but in that process they picked up Whitecloud and Maatta. Both of these guys have played well since the trades. They have value and can be flipped if they want to.

Conroy is fricken awesome at his job. I mean, his asset management is next level, but he's also amazing at managing the people side of things to. Look at the way the players he trades away rave about how he conducts business.

Pretty optimistic about the next decade for this franchise.
