Yeah, this isn't an 'American leaving a Cdn team' thing, it's a 'I'm in the prime of my career, and VAN has turned into a tire fire and is starting another rebuild' thing

Welcome to the Central. The Jets moves after last season were awful. Without Helly to rely on they are just slower, older and a one line team. Throw in some bad injuries to start the year and they’re toast.

Hughes not a rental.

Signed for this season and next.

This also probably accelerates the Andersson issue. With Hughes gone, Andersson is now the primary prize available.

I guess my point was why are we letting Kadri and Coleman decide if they are traded? Instead of just putting them on the market like the Canucks did.

Lots of people were mocking the Canucks for sending an email out to the league that every player is available. But clearly it started a bidding war. This is the first of several trades for them.

You’re never going to ‘win’ a trade when you give up a player like Hughes, but Vancouver did excellent given their circumstances.

This year and next, plus the HUGE advantage of being able to offer 8 years, and front-loaded bonuses.

I would think the likelihood that they re-sign him is greater than 805, probably greater than 90%

1.5years of Hughes>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>.5 years of Andersson.

No way Andersson returns an Iggy or Desnoyers, although his trade value is high.

You don't get an elite prospect without trading an elite piece with multiple years left.

Thanks Taco. Was Calgary one of those markets? Most of the drafts had him higher than Parekh.

Hughes told them he wants out.

Kadri has not done that, and in many ways, wants to stay.

Can you not see the difference?

But I was told it's not even certain that trading Andersson with 2 years left on his deal at the 2024 draft would have meant that you would have been able to get a bigger return for him.

Also I remember being told that it wasn't a mistake by Treliving to give Andersson trade protection...but how the hell did the much better Hughes not have trade protection on his deal but Andersson did

Edit: I don't think Hughes could have had trade protection for this year because he's not UFA eligible yet but he didn't have it for next year either

The point is if the Flames were truly looking big picture then you shouldn't have to wait.

Nothing preventing them from shopping Kadri before he asks out.

Why are we so scared to put vet players on the market? It is so frustrating. This also completely destroys the myth that good returns only happen at the trade deadline.
Yay! you finally found a team to cheer for. Congrats!

I think we will Razz dealt prior to the Olympics. Seem like teams want to make their moves sooner than later.

Andersson realistically should get 1st and probably teams 2nd/3rd best prospect now.

The Hughes trade value has little to do with the Andersson value.

Hughes is just so elite.

lol at Fitzgerald.

The Markstrom trade (hey Rhett! A veteran that Conroy traded with term on his contract) is looking even worse for them without getting a massive piece like Quinn Hughes in Markstrom’s potential window. And it’s looking even better for Calgary.
