I dont even think they have 3 years of McDavid. If they get bounced early this playoffs and miss all together next season, I could see him asking out.

This is probably it for Edmonton to have a cup window with the current squad.

What a strange day for the Oilers. Make some moves and don't improve. Amazing work.

Oilers acquire their third player from the 2014 Oil Kings Memorial Cup team. I hope this works out as well for them as the Griffin Reinhart and Curtis Lazar acquisitions did.

you could argue if Jarry is even an upgrade over Skinner (I'm skeptical) ... but giving up a solid defenseman in Kulak and a 2nd is brutal.

solid GMing by Dubas. Jarry was on waivers at some point last year, right? Getting a 2nd as well as a solid defenseman and a backup goalie for him is neat work.

They somehow came out of it with a worse defense and lost a 2nd round pick. Just Stan Bowman things.

Funny thing is that 2029 is the first year without McDavid, that 2nd is going to be pick 33.

It's not 2012 and that's not Paul Statsny.

I'm sure it's already been said, but it is like when good things happen and everyone comes up to congratulate you.

High fives and fist bumps to Stuart Skinner for surviving that dump of an organization. You are about to play with true greatness!

I hope this improves them just enough that they aren’t in contention for the draft lottery.

So happy for Kulak. Hope Skinner turns Vézina-worthy.

Seeing some very good reactions to this across the internet. Like this one I just saw on reddit:

Dubas needs to be kicked out of the league for taking advantage of the worst GM in sports. This is like taking candy from a particularly stupid baby.

Happy for Skinner, he got treated like garbage there and seemed like a legit good dude. Thoughts and prayers to the Jarry, Stastny and Poulin families. They did nothing to deserve the no goodness coming their way, but that’s just the casualties of war. E=NG

These are nothing deals. I guess for the Oilers they have to try something to get a better goalie but end of the day these are both insignificant.

Yup.

Tristan Jarry:
Regular season GAA 2.74
Regular season SV% .909
Playoff GAA 3.00
Playoff SV% .891
Playoff Games: 8

Stuart Skinner:
Regular season GAA 2.74
Regular season SV% .904
Playoff GAA 2.88
Playoff SV% .893
Playoff Games: 50

So, basically the same numbers, except Skinner has tons more playoff experience despite being younger.

I bet Skinner has better stats by the end of the season.

At best, seems like a small upgrade in net, but a downgrade at D.
And Jarry's stats are going to sink playing behind the Oilers already terrible D.

Skinner+Kulak for Jarry+Stastney is probably a wash.

Paying a 2nd and a 3rd on top is the reason why you don't trade from a position of weakness.

You know, I thought they had acquired Samuelsson at one point, but when I looked him up, I couldn't see any Oilers games. I missed the 5 games he played with Bakersfield.

In a few years we will hear the story about the difference in rooms for sure.
