Snowfall is objectively worse in February, though it's personal preference as to how much somebody cares. All other weather metrics are so similar that it's a wash, but it makes sense to hate February more because you're fatigued from 3 months of winter at that point, whereas January has been the start of true winter in some years after a very mild Nov/Dec.

Jan 1 is the only good thing about January. After that you still have 30 more days of January. Which is more than February can ever possibly have...except for a Groundhog Day situation.

Jan 15 sunset: 4:59pm
Feb 14 sunset: 5:51pm. It sets at 6pm around the 19th, so there's another 9-10 days of that glorious hopeful feeling. Compared to 15 days of sunset before 5pm in pathetic January.

Usually it's November because of the shortening days, winter-like conditions while not even being winter yet (so depressing) and lack of fun holidays.

Not this November though. This one has been great. A snow-less Halloween and mid teens forecasted for next week. The snow dump that was forecasted for mid month has been rescinded too!

### snow before the holidays. I love the bare and unfrozen ground, I could kiss it.

I’d argue April.

It gets the most whining because it feels like winter should be over and yet it is our second snowiest month behind March.

I remember the first month of Covid it snowed for like the first 15 days of April. Then when it’s not snowing it’s raining.

January and February are supposed to be winter. April is supposed to be spring and is not.

Is the only thing we judge months by is the weather? I feel like there’s so much more that makes a time of year important than the average daily temperature.

December fools people into thinking January is better than it is because of proximity, but that makes it worse.
January feels like the beginning of the marathon to me. It's hard, but you're doing it. February is when my will breaks and I want to quit.

I've never run more than 5k, so I don't actually know what a marathon is like.

February is not getting enough hate. That is usually my breaking point for winter weather though

Tie between November and February. December is awesome, and January gets a halo effect from December and some excitement from the new year. November and February are pretty irredeemable. Awful weather, both super dark, and not a lot going on. November has Christmas in the future and February has spring in its future - a wash, as far as I'm concerned.

I dont feel that May gets enough loathing.

Its like that mushy-middle between pseudo-spring and summer. Who even needs May? They should just cancel it.

Hunting in November is the best.

There are many great things about April, but I'd say bye to April without hesitation if it meant we don't have to file personal taxes to the CRA anymore.

At this exact moment, I might hate CRA more than I've ever hated anything in my entire life. The sheer ineptitude of this organization is beyond anything I would consider possible, but here we are.

What are your other categories.

School in or out? (Essentially dictated by weather)
Holidays in the month?
You are an accountant?
Sports calendar? That’s essentially dictated by weather

Otherwise our calendars are dictated by weather. It’s why April is the worst. Too late for winter activities, too soon for summer ones.

November: you have the lead up to christmas, one stat holiday, the beginning of ski season.

January sucks. Holidays are over, the deep winter has set in, and work metrics usually start again at zero. if any month feels like groundhog day, its january.

November. Even the holiday is a bummer. One day off and you spend it being sad in the dark.

Sounds like you need a good accountant.

I would probably say November, except I have fond memories of my hunting days in this month.

February and March months are kind of dreary with the cold and icy streets, and the snow shoveling.

December. Too much to do. Too much to pay for. I worked retail for many years and am pretty disgusted by the whole commercialization of it. And the weather is cold…yuk. I’m not religious, so the whole Christ’s birthday doesn’t do it for me either. Just my 2 cents.

You’re right. I was catching a flight home one November and kept having these bizarre encounters with this travelling salesman. The ####ing guy...First he steals my cab, then he’s sitting next to me on the plane, talking non-stop about shower rings like he’s reinvented the wheel.

Flights get cancelled, and somehow I’m stuck sharing a motel room with him in Wichita. I wake up to find his arm around me like we’ve been married twenty years. Next day we’re hitchhiking in a burned-out car held together with thoughts and prayers and duct tape.

By the time I finally got home, I’d spent all my money, smelled like cigarettes and motel soap, and genuinely missed him when he left.

#### right off, November.

Gotta be January as a teacher. Here's why

September - New school year, excitement, flies by fast.
October - Thanksgiving, Halloween, my birthday, kids are excited (my own and the students)
November - Second worst month
December - Christmas, 2 week break
January - worst month by far, back to work, long ass month with 31 days, cold, dark, report cards are due
February - Short month, numb to the cold. Teachers' Convention & Family Day weekend brings some relief
March - Spring break, weather starts to turn
April - The Masters
May - Spring is here, golf course opens
June - School's out
July & August - Obviously great

No question it's January followed by November.
