Maybe keep the young D prospect with upside next time instead of bums like this guy?

Solo will be back on waivers in Colorado once Girard's back. Flames can just reclaim him then if they really want to.
But unless he has a great season in the A once he eventually gets sent down there (by someone), I doubt teams are lining up to sign him in the summer as a UFA anyway.

You know, the plucky youngster who turned 25 this summer. Not the washed up bum who turned 28 this summer. Give the plucky youngster another three years, and he could be approaching 100 games played in the NHL! Like the washed up bum three years his senior.

I honestly don't get the need to call players bums. He showed up to camp as one of the fittest Flames. He always has a positive attitude. Furthermore, he only played 1 NHL game this season, and was on the ice for 2GF, 2GA, best +/- on the team. He was obviously out of his depth playing against the Knights' top line, but the coach didn't exactly put him in a position to succeed.
As for keeping a prospect up. Gridin, Brzustewicz, or Kuznetsov sitting in the press box, wouldn't really help them to become better hockey players.
As for Solovyov, he isn't playing any better than Pachal right now. The Avs are slowly ramping up his minutes, increasing his ice-time by 1.5minutes each game. He's doing alright playing with Malknski. That said, he was still on the ice for 0GF, and 2GA. So IMO the effect of keeping him on the Flames instead of Miromanov would've been negligible.

I wouldn't be so sure... seems Solo is doing quite well in Colorado. There's a couple articles out there from the past day with lots of praise for him from the coach and other players.

Solovyov has earned coach Bednar’s confidence, seeing increased ice time. That confidence has prompted Bedar to declare:
“I like him a lot. You know what his sort of identity and MO is coming in. I think he's gotten better. I thought Columbus he was outstanding, and last night, he was pretty good again. He’s a big, physical guy that can move the puck efficiently. He's a smart player. He seems to be doing a nice job with and without the puck. I like the edge he brings... the size he brings."
Bednar added:
"It’s a credit to him and what he’s done since he’s been here in the short time playing games. He’s got a pretty good skill set. He’s got decent hands and vision and hockey sense. We want him to sort of expand. It’s not just about surviving in the league or being here. It’s about making a positive contribution on a nightly basis.

Solo was gone at the end of the season either way, so it's really not a big deal. They did him a favour.

I think he means that nobody has been placed on waivers today. Not a jab at Calgary.

I think there is middle ground beyond the hyperbole. Miro isn't a bum, and Solo wouldn't be the Flames savior.
Solo happens to be good enough to be depth piece on the best team in the standings but wasn't good enough for the worst team. That can be hard to swallow.
I think retaining players you draft and develop is important so that you don't need to go the UFA route for the Bean's, or Rooney's, or trade for the Okhotiuk's
Also, just because Solo could be a group 6 UFA at seasons end doesn't mean he would have. Retaining him gives you the option to sign him. If Miro wasn't in the long term plans, then a better decision would be to keep the player who may or may not be, which is better than the player who isn't.
it's important to make good decisions at all levels, not just the impact moves, but also the depth moves

The coach of the Flames just didn't rate Solo highly for whatever reason, and I think that's why he ended up on waivers.

Plus he's a UFA at the end of the year unless ge gets 40 games (he won't). So he wasn't part of the future. Better to focus on the other young D they have. Develop some partnerships in the A, work them into the lineup up here. Some of them are waiver-proof so I'd like to see that.

I don't love Morin sitting in favour of guys like Cicek, Miro, and Poirier who will never be NHL regulars.
Anyone know why he has only gotten into one of the games so far?

Turner Ottenbreit - 28-year-old, career AHLer
Simon Mack - 24-year-old out of Penn State, technically a rookie in the AHL.

The Flames and Avs have way different objectives. We will see how the season shakes out but maybe the plan was to play prospects instead of Soloyov or Miromanov and neither were in the long term plans. Valimaki is better than Solo and he wasn’t missed much.
