Kimmel has been told to apologize to the Kirk family and donate to Turning Point USA if he wants to return to the air.
Quote:
The media company Sinclair wants Kimmel to apologize to Kirk's family and make a "meaningful personal donation" to them and Kirk's nonprofit Turning Point USA.
I hope he refuses. He can go independent and be bigger than ever.
What does he even have to apologize to the Kirk family for? Nothing he said was disparaging of Charlie Kirk at all.

His contact is up soon and he will never be safe at that network or allowed to say what he wants. There is no point in him capitulating, I guess other to make sure his staff is looked after. It's a tough situation because it isn't just about him.
It's so dumb though. His comments were about Trump and MAGA, not about Charlie Kirk.

Wow... the apology is one thing (which he shouldn't do anyways, because he didn't say anything offensive and well within the confines of free speech), but the donation? To a cause he doesn't need to support?
That's extortion. #### that ####. I hope Kimmel tells them to stick and moves on.
Exactly. I hope Kimmel tells them to go f*** themselves and then starts his own podcast.
It looks like we might be seeing a new era of blacklisting entertainers just like in the 1950s. How they tackle the podcast scene might be more difficult, but I am sure they will try.

I hear they wanted him to apologize and donate to Kirks gofundme lol...gofundme for a multimillionare but thats another topic
Late night talk shows on network television are dead/dying anyways. Kimmel's ratings, like all the other big talk show hosts, were slowly falling before this debacle. Personally, I haven't watched network television late night talk shows in years.
Conan O'Brien was pretty successful going out on his own. He has been more successful both financially and in terms of viewership with his podcasts. Its probably just time for Kimmel to move on from network television as a medium.
It's obviously kind of a shame that Kimmel's show, after over two decades on the air, is being pulled for BS reasons. This is kind of on brand for Disney though, who seem to constantly want to play both sides and produce the most generic product possible.
There's a good chance Kimmel was actually wrong, and the shooter wasn't a MAGA supporter, but the correct course of action there would be for Kimmel to clarify/apologize for his inaccuracy, not for him to be fired for stating a political position.
To be clear, that is Sinclair making that demand, not ABC. That's about 1/6 of their affiliates. ABC doesn't necessarily have to cave to them. They are the most evil of the players in this all, and are trying to get more powerful.
Colbert brings back his Colbert Report character. I never thought him as host of the Late Show really clicked but glad to see he's still got it. I bet whatever he does next is a hit.

He didn't even say the shooter was a maga supporter. He was saying MAGA was trying to make political points by coming out hard that he was a radical lefty and not one of theirs, and then showed a clip of how devastated Trump was. He didn't disparage Kirk, He didn't say the shooter was a MAGA supporter. When he made those comments there was no clear indication of any political leanings of the shooter

I saw a headline that CityTV plans to air Hudson and Rex in place of where Jimmy Kimmel previously was. It did sort of make me chuckle as I think that's a Cancon airtime filler go to. Can't say I've ever watched it, but seems to be on Global on Saturday and Sunday morning and afternoon when I do my old man skip thru the channels to jump between games.
As for Kimmel, back when Colbert was announced that it would be cancelled due to losses I seem to remember something about if you considered the online audience and revenue that the bits from Kimmel's show generates, than it's a profitable enterprise. But in terms of old school T.V. ratings...it was a loser. Now if Trump and his admin manage to gain more control and influence on Youtube..well I think we'll all have bigger things to worry about.

Honestly, I only ever watch the monologues on YouTube for these late night shows. I have no interest in any of the other content about celebrities and whatever they are promoting. I get why the format is dying since people can easily pick and choose whatever segments they want to see.
