It would still be a bad return.

Damn it. Well, I guess I'll be the first person to say that this is not good and I'm still hoping Ras and the Flames can come to an agreement on a longterm extension to keep him in Calgary where he belongs.

Move him in the summer. Can’t risk having him on the roster if the Flames are in a playoff position at the deadline. The worst-case scenario is hanging onto him so management ‘doesn’t send the wrong message to the locker room’

I feel like Seattle may be a team looking for a good RHS defender. They should be trending up, but that back end is ugly

Maybe we can pry Ryker Evans out of them...

The sooner the better as this information being out there makes it pretty clear to all involved this only ends one way. Conroy put out there that there is no timeline or deadline, which is the stock answer, so this is probably coming from the Anderson camp as their way of saying lets get this done so we can move on. I’m not sure this changes Conroy’s approach because all involved are professionals, but if this drags on there are probably more negatives (injury, regression) than positives to come from waiting for a better deal.

1. On Rasmus Andersson: the feeling across the league is the talented defenceman is ready for something new. I believe the Flames are willing, but only when they get what they want. There’s significant interest, which helps.

There's a difference between trading someone who is on a expiring contract and trading someone who isn't. The players would get it.
This isn't 2022 where it would have been insane to trade Gaudreau considering the season the team was having and that they were confident they could get him re-signed.

Montour and Larsson have the right side covered for the Kraken. People might not think much of that but I don't think that they are going to be in on Andersson.
I posted this elsewhere but here are the lists of potential suitors that were put forth in some articles: - Sportsnet's list: Sabres, 'Canes, Leafs, Stars, Canadiens
- Daily Faceoff's list: 'Canes, Blue Jackets, Stars, Red Wings, Senators, Flyers
- Flames Nation: Kings, Senators, Blues, Capitals, Jets
That starts as 13 teams, not including the Sharks. Personally, I would eliminate 8 of them right away:
- The Flyers are not building/buying and the Sabres are likely on Andersson's NTL.
- The Blues, Capitals, Stars, Jets, Kings, and Leafs are challenging because I doubt they have much that the Flames want/need (but I could be wrong)
That might leave the list as: Blue Jackets, Canadiens, Hurricanes, Jets, Red Wings, Senators, and Sharks. Maybe there is a surprise suitor or two hiding out there in the Mammoth, Ducks, or Blackhawks.
I expect Conroy's phone is ringing a lot right now. Hopefully with real offers and not "late 1st round picks + nice prospects".

I think he would stay for a home discount deal if we were a contender.
But since that’s far off, it makes sense for him to take the money and/or land on a contending team. He’s earned it.
Conroy has probably named his price and will see how many offers meet it, like he always seems to operate. He won’t drag it on if the offers are there.
I think he’ll fetch a 1st and 2nd or equivalent. More if we retain.

Is anyone really surprised this leaked right before the draft? Flames are clearly opened for business.

I would hardly even characterize this as a leak. This looks to be coming directly from CGY and it speaks volumes that it's Elliotte's lead story. They intend to move him soon, IMO.

I will just say he is one of my favorite players of all time. His personality and competitiveness have set him above many players for me over the last almost decade. While this expected outcome may end up being the best thing for both parties, I will be sad to see him go.
The goal staredown alone.....just pure gold for me. Will always root for him unless he goes to Edmonton.

You might be right. Seems foolish from a negotiation standpoint to take the prospect of retaining the player off the table, but this does fit Conroy’s MO. He did something similar when trading Lindholm to shake out last minute offers. If this is the team and not Andersson putting out info, there’s probably a deal on the table the Flames will take if they can’t get something better within a few days.

Royle/Sec/Dis, what if anything are you hearing about potential destinations? Take it he would prefer to go to a contender and more likely to extend there, thereby increasing the return we would get? Hope his agent is working in concert with Conroy to create a win/win situation for the team and player.

It’s been awesome to watch his progression as a Flame. He’s become a leader on the team and one of the more entertraining personalities in the league.
An excellent middle pair d-man who has the skill set to move up the lineup when needed, and play special teams. There will be a lot of interest.

Significant interest is great to hear. Maybe we can fleece a Vancouver type team willing to overpay.
