I figure there's no hurry to trade Andersson before the draft. Teams seriously overvalue picks at this time of year, partly because the losing teams are trying to appease their fans by drafting shiny new toys, and partly because GMs and scouts get their gonch in a twist over the perceived need to go after particular players. So it's probably not worth a great deal of effort to try to pry a 2025 pick out of anybody.

I'd be quite happy to see the team get a 2026 pick and a decent prospect at centre. They can increase his value by retaining salary for '25-26. If they trade him after July 1, they can increase it further by letting the acquiring team negotiate an extension with him right away. Several teams are going to go big-game hunting for defencemen and come up empty, and Andersson could be a good Plan B for any number of clubs.

I think if you trade Andersson, might be good to sign a guy like Orlov to a short term contract high AAV like the Canes did. He can be that protection for Parehk and Bruz as well. He seems to be able to play any pairing well so wouldnt mind it.

2 years x 6?

I think Dallas can be a good fit for Raz. They have Miro and Harley, but seriously lack d depth.

NHLers calling out their GM for any reason is rare. I think the frustration with Yzerman and overall direction must have been building for a long time, maybe years, to go there in a garbage day presser

I like what he brings leadership-wise but that -38 wasn't exactly a fluke.

If he was a massive extension the play needs to tighten up. I'm not sure if his best season is ahead of him at this point.

His play fell off a cliff after a strong 5-6 game start for him, and it wasn't because of injury.

Maybe he was trying to get us a better pick. But that wolf fella had to go and spoil his plan.

8 games 10 points and +6

After a good start

73 games 21 points -44

That is very bad for a 96-point team

Hanley - Weegar
Bahl - Parekh
Kuznetsov / Solovyov - Pachal
Bean

Because of the fit it would make sense to bring Hanley back on a one year deal.
Because of his play and age he will probably leave to chase a three year deal.

Kuznetsov and Solovyov are going to be the other rookies that the Flames will break in with Parekh.
Bean will be the rotational veteran that stabilizes the third pairing.

Most likely team to want Andersson are the Stars but they have no good draft picks left and not a good prospect base.
Wings are probably the team that needs him the most. Second round pick, two third round picks, and Dmitri Buchelnikov are probably what gets close to happening.

I can't see us rolling with 3 rookies on defence.

Hanley 100% has to go regardless of what happens to Andersson... what he did was admirable but investing that kind of ice time in a 34 year old waiver wire level guy and having kids stuck behind him, no matter how nice the story was this year is incredibly wasteful from a developmental perspective, or even from a long term outlook for the flames, he definitely won't be here when the team is good again. And he did great this year and am happy for him, but he put up 9pts with that kind of ice time so it's not like you're moving out a core piece.

I'd like to see them send out a mid round pick or two and add a couple guys who are buried somewhere else like they did with Miromanov. Call it the Kiprusoff model. That Miromanov move didn't pay off but it was the right play. Eventually you will find a guy who steps up. Am sure the Flames scouting staff have better eyes than me, but just to throw out some names, target someone like Fensore from the Canes or Matt Kessel from the Blues that moves the puck a bit better than Hanley and is young enought that they could become either a core piece or a valuable asset.

Or better yet give someone like Poirier or Brzustewicz a long look like a team in our position should be doing.

For me I have no problems with the Flames trying 3 rookies on the backend, next year is the year to do it... in front of a great goalie with an incredible draft class. If they sink you win with a franchise cornerstone and if they swim you start to have a d corps to build around.

I'm here for the comical stare at a flames fan wearing his old Flames jersey when he comes to town with his new team and scores on us.

Ras has been a great Flame. Great personality and team guy. Great leader in the room. As good of value as you can get for a 2nd round pick. But it's in best interest for both sides to move on even though it's gonna suck to lose a guy like him. He just doesn't fit in the future window of the team at his age and there's talented younger guys coming in on the blue line who need spots. On a personal level it sucks, but the NHL is a business at the end of the day

Unless a team steps up with an offer that includes a 2026 1st and piece that can help the Flames right away then I think Conroy holds onto him into the summer. They won’t let him go for nothing.

It is interesting. I think it will depend heavily on who is interested in Andersson.

If it is the Sharks or similar rebuild team looking to change gears, then I expect that they pull the trigger at the draft and it'll be on the other team to take the risk on Andersson being willing to extend or not.

Otherwise I would expect a trade on July 1st after Ekblad signs. Either a sign and trade or a trade and sign... but that would likely be the best value trade timing for Andersson.

Maybe Sharks, but I don't see any rebuilding teams adding him. His value right now is that amazing contract. That's gone in a year. They'll want someone locked up long term for one of their potentially valuable 1sts, not Ras.

So, that leave contenders as trade partners. There will be a few very disappointed teams after round one where guys like Andersson and Coleman might fight in.

If Conroy decides to move on from those guys we are talking late 1st picks (probably this year) and other stuff. This won't be a Hamilton style trade. It will be a let's get Ras as a super #4 for a full season at $2.5 M (after retention) and see how he fares, we can extend if things go well or at worst he is a season long (plus playoffs) rental.

All that to say, lower your expectations about what we will get. He's not Hanifin, closer to Tanev.

For that reason, if he will take a team friendly contract, I'd rather keep him.

Assuming Andersson is traded:

The RH side is Weegar, Miromanov, and Pachal, with Brzustewicz, Solovyov, and Kuznetzov in the AHL, the later two can play either side. Parekh is the wild card. Mews is at least two years out.

The LH side is Bahl, Hanley, and Bean, with Aspirot, Solovyov, Kuznetsov, Poirier, and Grushnikov in the AHL. Morin is still several years out.

Bean and Miromanov can be buried in the AHL with little cost.
If none of Solo, Kuz,or Poirier are quite ready, Calgary may need to trade for a veteran D or two.
