Man that's tough news. He started doing color back in the 2&7 days In thought.
Still remember Game 7 vs Vancouver, in awe of Iginla for the second goal.
at the 1:27:26 mark.
An absolute staple for HNIc, always the third of fourth crew sometimes, but just a great color guy. A familiar voice from growing up watching hockey.
Him and Ball were great together the last few years, especially the Dallas series. Old school, but didn't mind having his opinion and sticking too it.
I absolutely hated Millen in that series, I thought he was a Canuck homer, totally urged them in the marathon Game 6 if you go back and listen.
So I unjustifiably hated him for years, thought he sucked. But then put that aside and realized how good he was, one of the few that criticized refs and players over the year and as someone said earlier, he never seemed to age, kept up with the changing NHL.

I really enjoyed listening to Millen. I initially didn't care for him but once I realized it was hating him because it seemed like the cool thing to do on the internet I was able to listen with an open mind.
I really liked how he could laugh at himself. I believe it was in the 2004 playoffs and he talked about how the Flames were at a disadvantage in the 2nd period because they were the away team and they had the long change... of course, both teams had the same disadvantage. A few minutes later he realized what he said, called himself out and laughed at how ridiculous he sounded. I know he did similar on a couple other occasions.
I always knew it was going to be a good listen when he was doing color.
Was one of the better guys in the booth all these years. I always enjoyed his banter with the pbp guys, his perspective on the game, and his genuine humility.
Condolences to the Millen family. What a huge shock and loss. By far my favorite color commentator in recent years. Incredible knowledge of the game, self-deprecating and truly seemed like a wonderful person.
I was wondering why SNET was rolling with the San Jose feed tonight. I didn't expect this as the reason. Terrible news, he was great and seemed like he was always working at it and getting better and better. Came across as a genuinely good human too.
I expect the next Flames regional broadcast on Wednesday will be very difficult and emotional of the crew. Will probably have a beautiful tribute, though.

He was a classy colour commentator. It's crazy how many goalies end up doing colour. Hrudey, Millen, John Garrett. I think there's a reason for that.. they have eyes like cats and rarely miss anything. Maybe ex-goalies should be become referees

I wouldn't blame them for taking another night off.
I know there is the whole idea that the show must go on and that Greg would want it that way, but it's going to be tough for that whole crew. It will take a lot mentally to keep it together for sure.

I was thinking he must have been on the road with them when it happened. You’d have to think someone in the broadcast crew would have found him it he didn’t show up for bfast ect.
Could not imagine what that would be like. Very traumatic.
He was old-school, but understood the modern game and changed with it. I'm refreshed seeing so many positive comments about his work because I thought he was the best color guy, no matter who he was paired with.
I don't know why, but he's forever tied to Jarome Iginla for me. Whenever I picture Jarome highlights from the 00s in my mind, it's Millen's commentary with it. Maybe because there was an old Iggy tribute video on youtube where the song was Remember The Name by Fort Minor and Millen's voice was the voiceover.
I think the creator was some guy named Beltran something.
Condolences to his family and friends - a sad day for the whole hockey world, especially Canadian fans!
