Why? Why is this such a Calgary Flames thing to do?
Gabe Perreault got signed a couple of days ago- he's making his debut tonight. The Rangers are 2 points out of it. He's playing on a line with Miller and Lafreniere.
They're both from the same draft year. Suniev is 6 months older and a bigger player than Perreault.
Like FFS- put your prospect in a position to succeed. This is a goal-starved team and the one thing this kid can do is put the puck in the net.
|
The player needs to be around the team. Get mentored and learn the culture first. Learn how Coleman orders his protein shake and coffee on the road.

Yep my thoughts exactly too. We always do this. I’m pretty sure Dvorsky and Snuggrud just played games for St.Louis too, all while scrapping for a playoff spot down the stretch on an absolute heater.

He’ll get into some games at the coach’s discretion. He’s not here to save the season.

We can’t score, there’s literally 0 reason to not slot him in for protected minutes.

Yay. This was a great draft pick. Can't wait to see that shot compared to nhl guys.

Exactly correct. I guarantee the first couple games he suits up he looks better than a handful of the current players on the team. 100%. Backlund’s 25% FO% and 3 muffin shots from the blue line and floating around in 18mins of icetime can maybe take a bit of a backseat if we are in a playoff race, need a hungry young kid all jacked up to play and who has a wicked shot. Throw him in and watch him outplay a few of these comfortable guys.

Really excited for this player! Glad they got ink to paper after how quiet it was around him and his timeline.
Him and Parekh are going to be key cogs in the future here i think.

His NCAA progression mirrors Coronato's, and he's a much bigger player.
Not sure why the star probability is that low but I would have it at higher than 1% given the tools and frame this kid has.

The Flames need to find a way to get him games to end the year, playoffs or not but especially if they are still in the chase. Same with Parekh. Could be an actual game changer to introduce two more scoring players and bump some useless bodies down.

Same.
Gridin is starting to sneak up into the top 3 with them.

I think you are underrating the jump from the hockey he’s been playing to the NHL
He’s an exciting prospect but there is no guarantee he is better than established nhlers.
And this isn't a prospect at the level of a Ryan Leonard or Gabe Perreault (though I think the former is FAR more ready for prime time than the latter)
That being said I hope we see him before the season ends

I watched part of the rangers game and you can see the energy of the older players around the player making his debut. Saw the same thing with the blues the other night.
Give the player protected minutes and let his energy lift the team.
It’s embarrassing that we even have to wonder if/when it will be safe to play him.
If you are good enough, you are old enough.

I understand the frustration at Suniev not playing while Perreault and Snuggerud are but those guys are both first-round picks and much better prospects. I'm pretty confident that if Parekh were already eliminated, he'd be in over Bean or Pachal.

Yup, sit one of the older guys that can’t score. Might as well give him a look.
