Could a 1st, 2nd and $7.8M in cap space have gotten a better player than Norris at the draft...personally I think so.

And I'm sure Calgary was offering more than just the NJD 1st, so it's more than that actually.

Bufffalo is a mess

Well, the 2nd really pushes things towards Ottawa's favour.

Weird that Gilbert was included - really good team guy, and he is from the Buffalo area with a lot of family there. Probably one of the few guys that really wanted to stay.

I do sort of understand this from a Buffalo perspective. Norris did once score 35 goals

Perhaps they feel having two goal scorers up the middle will be difficult to deal with, or at least will give them some sort of identity

I just don't see Zary as a centre or as a significant core piece. I see him as a Versteeg type at best, a complimentary winger.

Cozens, despite his poor 18 months, is still a big centre with a pedigree and some history of big point production.

I would've traded Zary for Cozens.

Not sure Zary is equal to Norris...not sure you get the second. Docker has some value

So you're telling me the Sabres took:

Norris + JBD for Cozens + 2nd

Over

Sharky/Frost + Pachal for Cozens?

Because they were set on Zary?

Doubtful. I bet Conroy didn't want to offer any roster players. He's said as much.

Norris has more value than Sharky. And Frost was just acquired, conroy wasnt moving him

probably correct but the salary difference may have played a role. Both the Sens and the Sabres basically dumped bad salaries/reclamation projects. Interesting to see how it works out, suspect both teams just picked up overpaid players who do not produce up to the salary level they are paid.

The 2nd is a killer on the deal. Even if you think Norris is close to Cozens in value it becomes a 2nd for B-D.

I think Cozens must have been really unhappy and was going to be a disruption.

Great deal for the Senators. I like Zary but I would have moved him without hesitation for this return.

It's a weak return for Buffalo but clearly they don't want to keep losing like the Sharks seem OK with and so a youngish productive center to replace him was the key piece they were looking for. I'm not a huge Norris fan but if the Flames weren't moving Zary we don't have a comparable piece. Hard to see them moving Frost so soon after a trade but even if they would, he just doesn't produce at the same level as Norris.

Zary needs to get his swagger back. Before his injury every time he had the puck he looked dangerous. Now...not so much.

I don't think Norris does...

He has huge injury history and costs way more. Production wise they're close.

Sharky has scored 30+ before too.

Plus the Sabres helped a divisional rival.

If Norris stays healthy than he has more value than Sharangovich. That is the gamble for the Sabres. Sharangovich is a streaky winger and is in a slump.

Thrilled. I like Zary buy Cozens has a higher ceiling and this organization needs a big center and I think he's a guy that's going to do much better with a change of scenery. That said Ottawa is a team that continually underwhelms so who knows.

Great deal for the Sens, why would Buffalo add the 2nd.

I am in the opposite camp but it will be an interesting one to watch. I never really wanted Cozens in the first place. Weak defensively and not a play driver and I don't think that will change.

I don't think Sharangovich is close to Norris in value, he's really more of a winger/not a great centre, his PPG career is quite a bit lower and he's very inconsistent. I don't see anybody seeing him as more than a complimentary part on a contender

Surely if Cozens bombs in Ottawa too that it is on the player and not him just being in another bad organization no?
