Thats fair, 5x7M still isn't cheap though...he is a dman that has some offense but can't seem to defend. Those don't usually age well in their 30s.

this one will takes some time imo

The rumor that we wanted Jones has to be one of the most concerning things I have heard. We can't seriously be this short-sighted of an organization.

Just imagine if Lindholm and Hanifin and Jones didn't say no to us. This would have been a disaster.

Because you were silly enough to believe it, maybe?

Goodness me people get twisted up over things that didn’t happen
Judge Conroy but what he actually does.

Inquiring on Jones isn't the issue.

Would you not have taken Jones at 5 x $7 if all it cost was a 2nd pick.

Acquire Jones now, move Andersson in the offseason, and you're laughing in that scenario.

It's smart to inquire, it's smarter to not pay a 1st and Knight.

For all we know, Conroy was inquiring about getting assets to retain part of Jones's salary, but Chicago and Florida made the trade work without him.

How could it be a disaster? Everyone keeps reminding me the cap is going up, so the only logical thing to do is waste it by overpaying post-apex players on max term deals. Who wouldn’t?

Nice trade for Chicago. Get rid of a bad contract and add two nice pieces for the rebuild.

I think he's your Ekblad replacement going forward. I suspect that a team will regret signing Ekblad to $8.5M x 7 in the offseason, but that's a big downgrade going forward for you guys.

Who knows maybe FLA, and the Barkov security blanket in particular can get the most out of Jones. A lot of D got their careers back on track in FLA.

This trade is so stupidly short-sighted it hurt my brain.

All for a d-man who has serious short-comings in his own zone and is already 30.

I know Florida needed a top 4 guy, but this isn't the guy to get, and that goalie of the future being given away WITH a 1st round pick??? ####ing insanity.

Jones will look much better on a good team.

Boy, that's a whole lotta wishful thinking. I see it as Jones possibly being a defensive liability contract anchor that now the Panthers will have to eat for the remainder, and Bobrovsky is one tweaked knee away from the team being screwed in net. I also wouldn't be shocked to see him retire at 37....not a lot of goalies keep playing after that.

most of their core is in their late 20s, so their best window is realistically, what, 3 or 4 years before their stars regress somewhat? I understand them wanting to maximize their chances to win another cup with that core. So in a nutshell, I understand trading for Jones ... but giving up Knight when your other goaltender is 36 feels incredibly shortsighted still.

Goalies are dime in a dozen, I think you are overvaluing them too much. Florida plays a structure that hurts the offense but is beneficial for defense and goalies, I think Jones will look good for them.

Again, Knight was 4.5 million sitting on the bench for a team that's looking to make another run. It may come back to bite them in the future but it's the right call now.

Bob has almost never been injured. Even if he does retire, he's making so much money that plugging that hole isn't a issue.

This again?

You don't need the best goalie in the game to win, but you do need good goaltending to be in contention. See: Flames for the entire Monahan Gaudreau era.

Goalies may be a dime a dozen, but getting a good one, especially one that is young and still developing, is insanely hard. The Panthers were in a great position for their future with Knight slowly taking over the starting net. Now what's the plan? #### if I know.

All for Seth Jones.

Advanced stats aside, because we know that being on a bad team can skew things, but have you watched Jones in the last 5 or 6 years play a game and think to yourself "yeah, that guy's a winner"?

Nope. It's a dumb decision and I'm going to yell and scream about it for quite some time. Even if he plays well in the short term, it's a bad move long term.

It’s hard when you are winning as well. Do you just look at today and punt tomorrow or do you look at it from both sides.

This one right here unfortunately feels like as bad of a trade as you can make. A bad contract a bad player and he’s 30.

How about that 28 1st rounder for Vladar

Jones will likely look a lot better on the Panthers though.

Knowing the Panthers team structure and ability to turn guys around he will probably look like a legitimate top pairing guy again.

Nobody would look good on Chicago.
