They had to have a succession plan for Geno regardless, and yeah he's been a pretty decent statistical QB the last 3 seasons, so someone may pay him well next year.
Darnold is just far too risky to commit long terms and big money too, as far as making a big impact so that Seattle can win more than 1 playoff game (or less) per year, a streak that's been going a decade.
Drafting a top QB would be a better (and risky) idea along with Howell.
Or maybe history repeats and Darnold is Matt Flynn and some 3rd round drafted QB steps in during the exhibition season and wins the job over the guy they paid and committed to, to be the QB.
But McDonald seems very conservative, you figure Schneider needs to have some say here too, as he did with PC.
