Bahl could end up being the perfect long term partner for Parekh. He's looked solid with Andersson. Now that he's starting to settle in, let him play with Parekh for a couple preseason games.
Weegar Andersson (assuming he stays)
Bahl Parekh
Solo Pachal
Would be fun to see
If Andersson does get moved, then Bean can slot in with Pachal for the short term

Even if none of them played (obviously silly because I'm sure at least some do) you'd still expect the number to be around 0, not -21%. Unless there has been a significant shift to these private leagues that are unaccounted for.
I'm guessing it's a matter of cost and other things like video games competing for kids' attention.

Yeah I’m not really disagreeing the trend isn’t positive, just more the characterization of “dwindling”. There’s a #### load of kids playing hockey and it’s the dominant sport in Canada. Also yes private league have become a more significant thing.
Interestingly, from what I can gather, obviously enrolment took a massive hit during / around Covid, and it was more or less steady (not growing tho) before that, and hasn’t recovered yet to previous level. It might just take some time as maybe a bunch of kids/parents lost interest after losing a season during Covid
Also agree cost is also a big contributor to limiting growth

Grushnikov is being healthy scratched on the AHL team and when he is playing, it's as a 3rd pairing guy.
He's much farther away than you think.

None of the Flames D prospects have differentiated themselves. For a couple there is still plenty of time but they don’t seem close. For others they are what they are.
Aspirot is the dark horse in all this. He’s not that old and is pretty darn good.

I like Grushnikov. He doesn't have much offense but has a strong transition game to go along with his solid defending.

“specifically with cale, it was about killing plays first,” flames director of player development ray edwards said. “what i was trying to show him was one of the best offensive players in the world, how committed he was to killing plays and using his stick and using his feet to defend, using his feet and his body to get into good position to stop plays and then go north, as opposed to cheating on the wrong side of the puck and hoping you kill it.”

“i mean, it doesn’t matter how many points i score this year, really,” parekh said. “if i score 100 or 200, it’s not going to put me in the nhl, as long as i continue to get better away from the puck and continue to improve my decision-making, those are the biggest things that are going to help me when i try to make the jump.

“him and quinn hughes are kind of the players you want to replicate, if possible, because they’re the best at what they do and they also do special things away from the puck, too,” parekh said. “it was more makar we were watching and just how he works with his stick.”
the flames don’t feel like parekh is the type of blueliner who ignores his defensive responsibilities to get involved on offence. Far from it, actually. Edwards was quick to point out that parekh’s defensive numbers and analytics have been strong.

There are guys who want to make the NHL, and are willing to work hard enough to do so.
And then, once in a while, there are guys who are determined to be the best, and are willing to do whatever it takes to be the best.
He appears to be one of those guys. And I have no doubt he will succeed.

If Parekh is even 90% of Makar, we are in a good spot.
But maybe he is 110% of Makar!

Button is a big fan of Gridin - surprised he has Battaglia on the list, ahead of him.

110% of Makar = Makar skill level + Tkachuk pest level.

Hell, if he is 70% of Makar, he'll be a great player.

Stromgren is an interesting addition on that list.
You'd think he'd get a look soon if he's that highly regarded.

Ya, still only 21 but I would think he gets a cup of coffee this season.
Makes it tougher with the Flames in a playoff race and your can call a guy like Hunt up who you know can burn 4th line minutes and eat popcorn.

I also think there's something to be said for keeping consistency on a Wranglers team that has a chance for a deep playoff run. That is also great for the development of the younger guys.
