Rantanen is an absolute stud player and is worth what Drai got...let's see if Carolina pays up.

I like this deal for the Avs, I have always thought highly of Necas and I still think JK has another level.

biggest NHL trade since ... us trading Tkachuk, probably? Rarily do you see 100 points players getting traded like that.

I respect the Canes going all in. They have been close in recent years. I still do not like their goalie situation but that’s a hell of a team. Still may just be a rental for them but I think most of us would agree missing out on Stone and then Eichel were huge misses in the Flames previous contending window. Sometimes you gotta push your chips all in.

I like it for both teams. Buys the Avs some time and Hurricanes get some star power they are missing

Avs get a 3rd line C and 2nd line RW who can benefit from the PP.
Still hard to give up a player like Rantanen. Size speed and the scoring. It’s a rare combination not sure they got enough

This trade also set the values of other players rumored on the block as well IMO

Carolina has won 4 in a row 7-2-1 last 10. Colorado is 4-4-2 and lost 2 in a row.
It’s a rare thing to see a team streaking make a move like this. It could sink Carolina.

So the Canes are relatively cap-neutral on this, so they trade Necas and Kotkaniemi for Rantanen and Hall (interesting, and seems fair)
COL trades Rantanen for Necas and Kotkaniemi and eat about $2M in salary
CHI eats $4.625M and trades Hall for a 3rd? CHI loses big time there.
My guess is there is another asset going from COL to CHI

So if it's Drury, CAR eats about $2M
In: Rantanen $4.615M + Hall $6M
Out: Necas: $6.25M + Drury $1.75m
Net cost: $2.25M

It would be cool if you could rent players out. The playoff s would be bedlam.

I read I think from JFresh that the stats show that it has been MacKinnon and Makar who have been elite this season when together but not nearly as much when they are apart. Avs no doubt looking to change things up, and there were rumours earlier in the season that they would trade Rantanen if they felt they couldn't sign him.

For CHI, they trade Hall for a 3rd + $1.75M in cap space (which they don't need)

Yeah it's aggressive for the Hurricanes but I have to imagine they think they can sign him. Avs are a worse team after the trade but I like that they made the trade to recoup some solid assets rather than keeping Rantanen for the playoffs and losing him in free agency.
