Maybe he gets another contract out of this... if not, Europe.

Walker came up to the Flames with chutzpah, so maybe he can bring this energy to his start in San Jose

I can see why the Sharks would see some value in Duehr. He has the tools to be a solid bottom sixer.

Rooney hasn't worked, and especially when it's him and Lomberg together we are generally just getting caved in when it comes to xGF.
Duehr: 42.6% with / 62.9% without
Pelletier: 47.3% with / 53.7% without
Lomberg: 39.1% with / 48.1% without

Should have waived Rooney instead.

One thing forum etiquette could improve on is if there’s an update to a thread topic the OP (or thread title) states which post the update occurs on so people don’t have to swim through and find it.
Just a suggestion

Flames are so thin at center, why would they do that?

Happy for Duehr! Make the most of that opportunity buddy!
Hopefully he finds some of that magic he had in the 2022-23 season.

Whooo!
Good luck to him. To be in the NHL, he has to play a hard type of game that is hard to maintain... he just hasn't shown that he can maintain it.
Lessens the headaches for those juggling players. win win.

NHL salary (at least for a bit) while living in San Jose! Good for him.
Hope he sticks.

Glad he was claimed by a team that will give him a chance.
As others have said, this helps clear a log jam of bottom six players. Rooney should go next.

Then after that he was just invisible.
Might as well get into it then...what always drives me crazy with this argument is that people always exaggerate how little the 4th line plays.
4th line plays a lot more than 6:30 per game. 4th line on the Flames appears to be averaging about 8:30 per game right now, and honestly it could probably be closer to 10 minutes quite easily.
Flames play ~52 minutes at even strength each game:
Kadri: 15 minutes (currently 16)
Backlund: 14 minutes (currently 15)
Zary: 13 minutes
4th: 10 minutes
It's pretty much one less shift a game for the top 2 lines goes to the 4th line and they are playing 10 minutes a night. And if the line was actually more of a skilled young line instead of the way it's constructed now you'd be comfortable doing that.
Looking back at the 4th line in 18/19 and both Ryan and Mangiapane averaged about 10 minutes of ES ice time per game (Hathaway a little lower at 8:30)
Now it doesn't mean you should rush guys like Honzek into the NHL on the 4th line but there is no reason a guy like Pelletier (140 career AHL games), Kerins (100 career AHL games), and maybe a more veteran guy (Lomberg / Hunt) could be an effective 4th line that can play 10 minutes a night.
|
I'm not against it for a limited period of time for sure.
But it's not 1 shift
The top six averages about 14 minutes of 5 on 5 a night, Rooney about 7.5, other fourth liners about 8.5
14-8 is 6 minutes, and the average shift length is 40 seconds.
That's 9 shifts per game for a fourth line call up ... and then arguably more because they were playing closer to 18 minutes a night in the AHL.

Best of luck in San Jose, Wranglers will miss him but hopefully it opens up more opportunity for some young guys.

Look for the Flames to shore up minor league depth via trades. The ECHL call-ups aren't really doing the job.

I honestly don't think it as an effort thing though. He just couldn't keep up with the speed of the game. And when that's the case it looks like you aren't trying, but the reality is you are just constantly behind.
I hope he finds an opportunity with SJ. But for the Flames I think this is a good thing.
