Winning a Zune is like something out of a sitcom.
"You won!!!"
I won! Awesome! I won! I really, finally won!!
"Here is your Zune."
Oh no...I lost. I lost hard. Can I decline the prize?
"No! You are a Zune person now...make peace with it. This is your life now."

The Hospital Home lotto changed 6 or so years ago where they got rid of (or greatly reduced) the little prizes in favor of focusing on the big ones.
Thing is - those little ones at least made you feel you got something for your $400+. I used to buy hospital home lottery tickets every year and won an exercise bike and Bluetooth speaker - but it's been zilch for the last 7 so I've stopped as it seems like a donation - which I might as well get a tax receipt if I'm going to do that.

Friends parents won the hospital home lottery in 2018 grand prize. Just some farmers from out by Brooks, a few years prior they also earned farm family of the year (or something like that) for southern Alberta. They started buying the hospital lottery tickets after he went through treatment for prostrate cancer.

One other thing to keep in mind is that the implied values for these homes are inflated. A real estate agent I know who used to be involved in these lottery homes, said that you can typically expect to sell them for about 15-20% less than what the lotteries advertise.

The value also includes all the furnishings and accessories which can include things like a fully stocked wine room, a built in jewelry box with jewellery included and yard maintenance equipment. They started to add a wad of cash with the dream homes to aide in paying for property taxes, utilities and HOA fees.

Good advice for when I win one of these. I’m gonna print this out and put it on the wall because I can never be less prepared.

I won a Stampede belt buckle back in 2009 from a corporate event. I am almost certain that is the only thing I have ever won.

I won a Cross pen, wallet, passport case and maybe a few other things I've never used from a Safeway Score and Win. So much winning.

There was one of those puck tosses at a Glenlake novice tournament years ago. Buy a puck and toss it and whoever is closest to centre ice winds the 50/50. Tij Iginla was playing on one of the teams. Kara Kirkland didn’t know what to do so everyone told her to chuck it and was last, so everyone is awatching, of course it’s a laser beam to centre ice so she won the $64. She was so embarrassed and apologizing.

It irritates me a little that one ticket costs about a hundy, but 50 tickets costs $500. Slight exaggeration, but not much. It kind of lends itself to richies winning the prize. They all do that.

Pfft. You can't have a whole hospital. Just like one part. Probably you'd get the morgue or proctology.

I'd settle for a Morgue.
Wait...is it an operating Morgue? Does a Mortician have to operate his craft there? Will there be corpses going in and out? Because that may cast a slight shadow upon the ol' home-life....

It would be one hell of a conversation starter though.
