officials tell Huska they didn't see the sucker punch on Pospisil- how did the near linseman and the blueline ref miss it? yet all 4 huddled for a few minutes and concluded they saw nothing
I thought that was weird, since it happened right at the faceoff. I had it on tape, so I just went and watched it. There were 2.6 seconds left. The linesman dropped the puck and immediately headed towards the blueline, getting himself out of the way of the faceoff scrum. He then turns back, just as he exits the camera, and just as the punch is thrown. It looks like he sees it, but it is hard to tell. However, he immediately skates back to the spot, to separate the guy that threw the punch - which very much implies that he did see it.
As for the ref, there is a shot on net, just as the punch is thrown, and since it is the last second of the period, he is watching the puck intensely. The other two are not in camera shot.
I will also add that if the team is REALLY going to bottom out, it is more important next year and the year after, because of the top end talent available in those drafts.
There's some appealing guys at the top of this draft, including a number of centers, but it is a more average draft at the top end.

Management? I like Conroy, I think he's doing the right things. I'm just stating that when the Flames head into a rebuild and need some high draft picks and end up finishing 11-16th AND forfeit that draft pick to Montreal, I will simply respond to that circumstance with "yep, that's the Flames, that's what happens with my favorite team, that's just how it is".
I hear you, but you did say "but hey, it's important to be competitive all the time, right?" which seems like a pretty clear shot at management.
Anyway, with respect to finishing in the mushy middle this year and next - while I agree, as Flames fans, this feels like our destiny - in reality, it is very unlikely. The Flames are playing over their heads right now, and are surviving on goaltending and hard work. That's great, but it is very difficult to sustain. I think the chances that they can keep this up all year are pretty low, and the chances that they can keep it up for two years are EXTREMELY low. And next year is the better year to suck, anyway.
As much as we feel we're destined for things to never work out in our favour, I think we just need to be patient. This team is heading down the standings eventually.

Do you want them stop trying?
Hell man just enjoy the ride. There's a lot of positive stories this season.
Yep, people should be happy that Wolf looks like he's what we hoped he would be and that young guys like Zary just keep improving.
The players themselves are not going to play to lose and Huska isn't going to coach to lose. Why are you going to when you may not even be around to play with/coach whatever player they draft?
The teams like San Jose lose because they're just bad teams who are poorly constructed. Maybe the Flames just aren't as bad as many thought they were.
Huberdeau has really been producing lately, not as a playmaker but as a scorer. I don’t know if he can maintain a shooting percentage above 20% but he is on pace for 30 goals. A lot of his goals are from right outside the crease, he has really changed his game.
And yes, not be controversial but I feel if we don't get a top 5 - 8 pick in the next two seasons and then start to head OUT of a rebuild due to a decent team and strong goaltender that we will absolutely struggle to become a contender in this league and will likely need to rebuild again later to get those critical core pieces. I KNOW that opinion is annoying here and refuted with "YEAH SO WHAT WE JUST SELL EVERYONE AND TANK AND BECOME BUFFALLLLLOOOOOO?????!!!!" But I stand by it, honestly. We need elite players somehow and this season seems out of reach to go that route. But if we can't pick top 5 or even top 10 during a rebuild? Then **** are we up **** creek.
I mean hell, we're sitting on one last goldmine in Andersson for futures for this rebuild and even HE is being touted as someone we keep around long term when his last productive years would come when we're not competitive . It's insane to me, but we all have different perspectives.
Relax, man.
They’re the lowest payroll in the league, they have $14M in expiring UFAs, and the cap is gonna be in the mid-90s.
This is a 4-6 year process, and we’re in year 2.
You should be encouraged by the organizational refusal to be abjectly #### in perpetuity a la Anaheim or Buffalo.
When was the last time the Flames got the breaks in the calls?
For the effort they've put in, 4 calls in the last 5 seems awfully light.
Why are the officials missing everything their opponents are doing? Seems to carry over game to game. I've turned my attention to other things in part because of the frustrating experience watching these games given that we're shy on talent which makes the breaks (and just correct calls in general) more important. I'm pretty sure we've had 4 or 5 points left on the table that can be attributed to egregiously poor called/lack of to this point in the season.

His whole game has improved. He even looks a little faster. It might be short lived but enjoy it while it's happenening.

How old are you? Were you around for the ghost of wideman?
It's kind of nuts though as we've had a couple of games where apparently the opposition were complete saints
I've always truly felt that he needs 1 high volume shooter whos legitimately dangerous and can read off of John's sneaky plays to turn it around.
You go back and watch his final year in Florida and the highlights and he's doing nothing really that different. However he's getting tons of assists because the passes he is making are being read by the players and they are capatalizing.
3 things you'll notice:
1. His confidence is sky high, he's taking the zone with his head up and he's looking at all avenues and making the sneaky good pass
2. The players are aware that John is looking to pass more than shoot, so they pickup on his reads and play off his strengths
3. He's playing way more east/west than north/south and Calgary has never utilized an east/west system. This is the biggest change I see between Florida and Calgary and something he's had to change in his game. I feel like were very close to having him be great and north/south now.
I notice a lot of the time, John looks to make that sneaky good pass but the line mates are just not ready.
