-0.6 is a 25 penalty swing over the course of the season, which probably results in a +/-6 goal swing. which probably represents about 3 points in the standings at the end of the year.
Not always a meaningful number, but in Kadri and Huberdeaus first year here they were -0.9, they missed the playoffs by 2 points that season, and their penalty differential almost certain played a role. I'd argue that missing the playoffs that year is a large part of the reason the team was forced into a fire sale of it's best players. And overall I'm not disappointed in how things are shaping up, but it made a difference.
For the Flames I had to look back to the bubble season to find the last time they were not in the bottom 10 in the league for penalty differential. This post Johnny/Monny iteration of the Flames doesn't rack up a ton of penalties, but for whatever the reason is, they are terrible at drawing penalties and it does make a difference.
