Being 1st in the Pacific this close to American Thanksgiving is certainly a pleasant surprise. How can you not love this hard-workin' lunch bucket team? This season is giving me serious 2014-15 vibes.

Lots of positives to take away from this one.

Sharangovich continuing to round into form and gaining confidence. Not just offensively, but he is strong on the forecheck and skating back fast to cover up defensively. He also led all players in PK time tonight which shows a lot of trust from the coaches.

Pospisil finally converting one. He has been around it a lot lately and working hard. He has also been keeping the bad penalties down (knocks on wood).

Vladar didn't close the door like how Wolf has been lately, and a 0.870 S% doesn't look great on paper, he still made some great saves at key times. Eye test, he looked fine IMO. It's too bad that the Wild didn't fire a few more muffins at him so at least the stats would have matched with the eye test.

Being able to consistently count on the 4th line has been a big plus so far this season.

Except that they actually control games, whereas the 14-15 team ran-and-gunned their way to exciting comebacks wins.

This team also has solid goaltending.

But I agree with you: like the 14-15 team, these guys seem to like playing with each other. They’re having fun and it’s contagious.

Very true, but Huberdeau has to figure out his game.

He has hustle, I'll grant him that, but its like...useless energy being expended for no accomplishment. Its like watching a Pee-Wee hockey player.

Just skating around trying to substitute effort for effectiveness.

For an 'Elite Passer' his passing is brutal.

Huska wasn't happy with the last 7 minutes. Felt they sat back and let them come at us.

We now have the longest winning streak in the league with 4 in a row.

I agree in the sense that I also get frustrated by some of his passing, but I think this overall analysis is a bit harsh…

Regardless, I have a feeling Zary will be the spark he needs, ala Pelletier (except better). Huberdeau needs a centre who can engage the O-Zone with speed and Zary can do that and more. I thought they looked great together today.

As it looks through the first quarter of the season the Flames have a stud young goalie, a top 4 that looks like both Bahl and Miromanov are legitimate NHL dmen to my eye and Pachal looking like a solid reliable bottom pair dman and Zary and Coronato looking like they are legitimate top 6 forwards. I think Yegor will continue to find his scoring touch from last year as he rounds into form after missing the first couple weeks.

The rebuild ain’t done, but with what looks like a real strong draft class in 2024 and Suniev, Honzek and maybe even Morin looking like good prospects from 2023, the rebuild is a lot farther ahead than I thought it would be.

Add on 4 first round picks, 3 second round picks and 3 third round picks over the next two years and there is a lot to be hopeful for going forward.

The PP looking like an actual NHL calibre Powerplay is the best part of this homestand.

Actual movement and Royal road pass attempts instead of just playing on the outside.

Kudos to the staff for actually making adjustments

I dont know if I'd classify it as 'harsh' per se, when you're the 'Premier Player' then expectations are bound to be high.

Expectations that he is not living up to.

This is the NHL. It is a results-based League. Just 'trying hard' isn't good enough.

Yeah, but I blame Treliving for offering that contract, not Huberdeau for signing it…

Sure and I can accept that element of it, but when a guy's production drops off ~50% he's gotta own some of the responsibility for that.

Really liked Sharky's defensive game today, I thought he was noticeable. I keep waiting for Zary to regress, like what he's doing is lucky or something, but the kid keeps impressing. It's amazing what happens when you let players develop properly.

And 7 of their next 8 games are against teams currently outside a playoff position.

I've held on to doubts about coronato and zary perhaps until just this past week.

They're taking this nhl team on their backs now. Flash in the pan/fringe prospects don't do that.

That and the steady progression overall.

They were excellent defensively. They play a tight game. It was easy to see why they're 10-3-3 or whatever. Obviously they missed Kaprisov, but I don't think it's accurate to say they didn't play well.

Ya, they are clearly a solid team. The Flames are a solid well coached team too. Huska is getting everything he can out of this roster. If he gets some scoring from the guys who recently have been coming around (Yegor and Kadri) he could really have something. The guy is a defenceman factory, Bahl looks like a legit top 4 guy at the age of 24, Miromanov goes from throw in to a legit guy who can play with Weegar and Pachal goes from waiver fodder to a guy who looks like he could get to 400 career games played in the league.
