The USA is just as stupid as so many people said it was.

My takeaway from this election: America would rather have a manipulative, lying, racist, piece of man who is literally a criminal in power than a woman.
I know, I know... policies! promises! economy! ... except the guy wasn't just one of those typical "whatever, all politicians are liars" candidates... he's an actual, literal liar. Everything he says and does is a lie and his only goals are to protect himself from further legal proceedings and to pad his own family's pockets.
They voted for that thing twice(!) over a woman. The first time, there was at least an argument of "he just says that stuff for a laugh, he won't be like that when he's elected." This time around, everyone knew exactly what he was and exactly how we was going to be if they elected him... and they chose him anyway.
Everything else aside, I still believe that whomever occupies that office should still, at a basic minimum, be a good person with at least the intention of being an honest and fair representative of the entire country (and everyone in it). This bonehead is none of that, and the only thing he cares about representing is his own family.
What a show. Have a great four years, United States of Russia!
Edit: In case there's any confusion, I'm not bragging about a lying criminal being elected over a woman, nor am I rubbing it in. I'm pointing out how absurd and ridiculous it is that this is happening.

Will be interesting once the final counts are done and we see better comparable statistics, but right now you have to be pretty stupid to look at the vast demographic difference in all those states and think that the voters in those states believe for one second that Trump is the terrible person that the Democrats keep saying he is.
California will be really interesting. Super blue state, but Trump is sitting at 40% now, versus 34% in 2020. That is a 6 point increase as of today, obviously more votes are coming.
Similar trend almost everywhere else.

This was definitely a decisive victory. Trump actually came somewhat close to flipping states like New Jersey and made things closer than they should have been in a state like New York.
New York went from 60.87%/37.74% Republican/Democrat to 55.8%/44.2%.

"Yes! There is so much proof!"
"Where is it?"
"Oh, you'll have to find it yourself."

They still need to count another ~8 million votes in California and another ~1 million in Arizona and some other stragglers.
But yes, probably about 8 million or so fewer votes this time around. Considerably more than in 2016 though.
People came out in 2020 hard to stop Trump. This time, the lower vote likely reflects more of a return to the norm turnout. 2020 had 65.9% of eligible voters turn out, which was unusually high. The typical number is 55-60%. We're probably looking at just over 60% for the 2024 election, which is still on the high side.

if 9 million votes are outstanding and 8 are in California Harris likely wins the popular vote.

Quite a sad and pathetic result. It's disappointing when you expect more out of people and this is what they do.
Anti-intellectualism is real and thriving with our southern cousins. It's almost like a comedy skit or an elaborate prank to find the most ridiculous, vile, disgusting person and put them in power.

Not quite. Trump is ahead by 5 million. California is 57/40 Harris. So Trump is getting about 3.2 million votes from California, plus he has the majority of the other stragglers. Then Harris gets about 4.5 million from California. The gap will close a little, but Trump is still decidedly ahead in the popular vote.
