I have not read the entire thread, so perhaps it has already been said. But, according to one source. I heard that the bowl will be level accessible. Not sure of the actual term of it as I am not an architect. However, apparently it may be as you walk into the event centre, to get to your seats, there will not be any stairs to climb. Basically you’ll be walking down the stairs for all levels seating.

SAP Center was HP Pavilion for a while, kind of clever.
I hope it's Telus just so we don't have to share a sponsor with anyone else.

It's a bit older, but the 3M Arena at Mariucci (home of the NCAA's Golden Gophers in Minneapolis) is a top-loading arena (what you are referring to). Sports Illustrated has rated it as one of the best arenas in North America to watch hockey, too. I believe it's quite costly these days to do these types of arenas though, as you have to dig a ton of earth, and factor in vehicular and operational considerations, into the below-grade design. Depending on the available land - especially sensitive in urban settings - it's often cheaper just to to do bottom-loading arena designs. No idea what the Flames plan to do here though.

While that's cool in principle, I'm not sure how feasible it is based on where the land is here.
Works in Seattle as that whole area is on a big hill.
The Saddledome ice level is essentially at grade and it flooded big time in 2013. Having the ice surface a couple stories lower just sounds like a bad idea.

Call the Saddledome "The Has Bean Arena" until it gets torn down.

Perhaps already posted but probably named the Rogers together with Shaw Center?
Rogers sponsors everything and Shaw was/is headquartered here and the government did approve a 2nd, global HQ of excellence here for Calgary.
LOL. Barf to all this crap

Exactly why we need Telus to save us from association with the two biggest no good villes.
Scotiabank was fine until Toronto cloned it.

Yes, based on the excavation plans, the event level will be a little over 11 metres below street level. You will walk in off the street onto the main concourse, which will be at the top of the lower bowl.
This was the planned layout for the original 2021 design...
In this design, the main concourse would have been at street level, but only about 2/3 of the lower bowl would be below the concourse and the other 1/3 would have been behind.
In the new design (from the excavation drawings), the main concourse (street level) will be where the Club Mezzanine level is on this drawing and the Club Mezzanine will now be below the main concourse.
Both Edmonton and Detroit (HOK designs) have this same layout in their lower bowls. You can see the entrances to the Club level about 1/3 of the way down from the top of the lower bowl.
In Edmonton, the upper concourse is also at the top of the upper bowl, but in Detroit, the upper concourse is in the middle of the upper bowl. I believe that is needed to accommodate the Gondola seats in Detroit, which overhang the upper bowl.
In the 2021 design, the new arena was going to have a "Press Level/Balcony" seating level that would overhang the upper bowl, similar to Detroit. As a result, the upper concourse would have been in the middle of the upper bowl like Detroit.
If they have decided to scrap the Press Level/Balcony, they might do a top-loading upper bowl like Edmonton.
I hope they keep the hanging press box idea. I know one of the big complaints from the play-by-play announcers about Rogers Place is how far away from the ice the press box is. On the other hand, one thing that is consistently praised about the Saddledome is how close the announcers feel to the action with the hanging press box.
Also, I think the balcony level seats would be a great place to watch a game from.

That's exactly why unique names ceased to exist. Companies pay tens of millions these days for an arena/stadium to he associated with their brand.
They'll no longer accept event centres to be called something different by causal fans/citizens, the way we just say " it's at the Dome in May". Hell even radio djs and other media often say "saddledome". That's a nightmare for a large corporation.

These are the elevations from the excavation plans...
The measurements are mm above sea level (because that's a logical way to measure things in Calgary). The Main Concourse will be at street level, the Club Mezzanine will be 5.08 m below that, and the Event Level another 6.225 m below that.
This also raises an interesting question about how the practice rink will be set up. The ice level for the practice rink should be at the same level as the main arena ice, which means the whole thing will be below ground. The practice rink in Detroit is completely below ground because LCA also has a street level concourse. I'm curious to see what will be at street level for the practice rink (in Detroit, it's a big public plaza).

Detroit is by far the best arena ive been to both in the NHL and NBA. If it's anything like that I'll be happy.

The Flames were quite infatuated with Little Ceasar's Arena, that's the model they looked at early in the design stages. It's also the same architect (HOK) that's doing Calgary's. Very high chance that if you love Detroit's arena, you'll love this one; there will be many similarities.

They should get even more logical, and measure from the centre of the earth.

Knowing someone associated with the development of the event centre, you are somewhat correct. Main concourse is street level. So you’ll walk in and go down stairs for first bowl, or up a set of stairs to the 2nd bowl. If you’ve been to Climate Pledge Arena, basically the same concept. Believe seating was 18,300 as well. Not sure how much would’ve changed since I saw the concepts in May but gives you a rough idea.
The community arena is also underground and I believe it had seating for 1800ish (about 300 less than Max Bell Arena)
Arena also is a different design than the first one released in 2021.

I’ve also heard that this is the same arena that the current design will be modelled after.
