If the oilers come back and win, we will never stop hearing about this.

McDavid and Bouchard are breaking records of all time greats.
It will be one of the historic comebacks in NHL history.
It breaks the Canadian cup drought.

Everytime a canadian team is in the finals they will bring this #### up. It will never end.

Truly the darkest timeline if they win.

Ok I bet $100 for the Oilerz to win the cup. They are pretty much guaranteed to lose now!

Based on what? Obviously every player eventually hits that aging curve, but he just put up another 100+ point season, is almost 2 ppg in playoffs scoring for his career, and is quite easily the best partner for McDavid that brings out the best in each other. Yes, I do too hope both fall off a cliff next season, but when I take my rose colored CP glasses off I see the best duo in the league, 2/3 of the best players, and 2 guys who have now proven they can carry a dysfunctional franchise to the finals. I don't see either falling off a cliff anytime soon. Both will be in the HOF one day and the elite of the elite in the league age well into their late 30s.

Paying 50M to McD, Draisatl, Nurse and Bouchard might be worth some lols in the E=NG thread, but realistically as long as you have 2 videogame cheats like McD and Draisaitl, I think you can afford to make some mistakes on the rest of the roster.

I'm talking statues out front and permanent background graphics on every SN broadcast for the next few decades. Both seem like players where legacy matters. Almost assuredly Ron Mclean will pop out of the woodwork with his "it's only a matter of how many" talk. With these 2 potentially re-signing they might not be able to build a contender around them, but they will spank the crap out of the Flames for the next decade, making each BoA game a chore to watch.

With the new arena and those 2 getting over the hump, it might draw in a few more players willing to drop their NTC to play alongside them. Chicago was more than willing to sacrifice their future for retirement contracts for Toews and Kane to thank them for their cup wins, I don't see the 0ilers being any different.

Going all doom and gloom here, because it is. Hockey gods against us, no doubt about it. Can't wait to see how the draft hoses us as well

Truly...the darkest timeline.
And in a decade after multiple cups, they'll tank and draft another generational player 1st overall. Rinse, repeat.

What's the payout on that? I like a good hedge.

He is a big guy that isn't fast to start with and takes a lot of abuse. It is why I can't see him actually wanting a four year deal to try and cash in on another contract later. McDavid will eventually lose some speed but he will be effective until he is into late 30s.

not very good at all now. 3.75.
$275 for the Oilers holding the cup isn't worth it...

Roll two die on the same combination of events happening to get the oilers to a finals appearance and it doesn't happen.

Maybe it is divinely inspired that they got here. But to pretend they did it without a #####-ton of help and outside circumstances aligning would be a lie.

I agree with you 100%. Unfortunately, if oilers were to somehow pull this off (panthers still up 3-2 so I think panthers can still do this), nobody is going to mention that. The nausea-inducing historical narrative would be:
- worst team in the league early in the season
- went on incredible run during the season
- down 3-0 in cup finals, came back
- McDiver's assist records, blah blah

They won't ask how it happened, just that it did.

Conversely, Calgary media gets to continue to reminisce about a failed run from 20 years ago. That's a story that is always based on how they got where they did only to come up short, controversial or not.

The guttural pang we all felt the moment Edmonton won that lottery 9 years ago was intimately for this season. Even if Florida manages to finish them off, the agony of this entire season from December on has been a test of endurance. We all dread them winning for many obvious reasons, but even if they lose, while the relief will be great, their fanbase will remain as smug as ever.

I don't gamble as a rule, but I like this hedge idea so I googled Play Alberta NHL and they have this huge ad promoting a $75 free bet if you deposit at least $10 (https://playalberta.ca/lp/sports75).

Upon clicking to make a small deposit a little message flashed up saying the promo code wasn't valid and I thought WTF? So I went back to the original page and saw in the fine print that the whole promotion is only valid through April 30th, 2024. It's the middle of June; how is it legal for sites like this to continue pushing promotions when it's been weeks since they'd honour them? Thanks to the VISA SMS doublecheck step I have a chance to bail on the whole proposition. Screw you, playalberta.

So many more gross storylines.
- The hometown goalie wins the cup.
- mcdicks personally appointed coach from his jr days.
-Multiple wins streaks throughout the season, including a Canadian one, during which they broke the record in the saddledome.

Here's a life lesson for you kids.
Cheaters do prosper.
Bad guys do win.

As a very cheap person with no serious trauma to speak of, gambling is a thing I can partake in relatively safely. I've been betting on the oilers all year, and it certainly takes the sting out. I ended up +$100 and just about dumped it all into them winning the cup before game 1 but... well... again, I'm very cheap.

I was at a work function yesterday where the theme was emergency response, and some of the people were from Alberta. They hung up an Oilers flag at the entrance (keep in mind this is in BC). The topic of suicides came up and the facilitator said that they kill themselves because they are Flames fans and have nothing to bother living for. I don't mind dark humour and he seemed like a good guy, but man, I hate being the butt of jokes.

That's perilously close to a firing offence. Telling people they should kill themselves (which this clown just missed doing) is an actual crime in Canada – section 241 of the Criminal Code, maximum penalty 14 years in prison.

bet365 is "grey market" in Alberta, I wouldn't use them. They don't care if you break their terms...until you win some big bet lol.

Betway is the way to go for Albertans IMO

I did great in Football last year cashed out about $16k and there was never any problems. Only 2 hours and it's in your bank account.

It should have been way more but I really suck at NHL and NBA...
