Apologies, we should have made it clearer for you...
Calgary fans: these NJD goalies are specifically the problem, the obvious solution is to trade for a good goalie.

Almost like our goalie coach had a negative influence on them…

Obviously not the case in Calgary currently...if anything the Flames hurt his numbers

Got to love it when a gm that attempts to call a bluff and loses rolls out his excuses to make it look like "the plan"

Imagine being a Devils fan and needing to troll other teams forums to defend your GM throwing away a prime contention year. Congrats on another wasted year I guess, way to stick to your guns.

This move screams ‘desperation’ to me. What’s the old saying, the cheap comes out expensive? I think NJ will end up paying dearly for trying to cheap out on a goalie.

For Swayman, sure. Mercer would be more than on the table.
You guys keep talking about fitz job in "jeopardy". It's not. what would put it in jeopardy would be trading Mercer for Markstrom

Personally I think the Devils should have just met the asking price 3 weeks ago, but this makes a lot more sense than trading a 3rd (possible 2nd) for Allen.

Baffling they didn't do this earlier, especially with two teams who have been long our of the playoffs. The price must have really come down.
When the Markstrom discussions were hot and heavy, I posted that they might look at Allen if Marky's price was too high. Hoping he found the late career form like Quick/Talbot did this year. I did not think that Kahkonen was in the picture at all.
I do wonder what it means for Schmid though, I think he needs waivers next year. Daws can go work on his game in Utica.
All in all, pretty happy with the moves today. Very similar to Calgary where they shipped out some UFAs to gain assets.

Imagine strutting around like you're a hockey genius when you were a vocal cheerleader for the failed decade of darkness "oil change" core.
Didn't get enough being dead wrong, had to come back for more!

Schmid won't need waivers next year. That's why KK and Allen were acquired

Are you sure? He's an arbitration eligible RFA, this is the last year of his ELC.

I'm starting to think the troll IS their GM. I can't imagine any Devils fan willing to defend Fitz after how this season played out.

Positive side for New Jersey:
Kahkonen is perhaps better than the stats show playing on that terrible team
Allen is an experienced backup, and NJ is short on experience
What was there (Vanecek and Schmid) was NOT working. Had to change it.
Negative side:
Not much difference really between Vanecek's history and Kahkonen's. If anything, Vanecek (one year older only) has been the more consistent goalie with more starts.
To me, this is change for the sake of change and hoping the 'mix' does better. New Jersey is bleeding away picks in an effort to find reliable goaltending. I don't think they really accomplished anything, and the tweet about them still going to be 'big game hunting' for a goalie in the off-season speaks to that.
NJ just applied a roll of duct-tape around some pipes, hoping that it allows them enough time to wash that pile of dishes they have until they can get a plumber to get in there. Seems like a waste of perfectly good duct tape to me.

He's 2 years or 8 games away from losing eligibility. This allows them to keep him in the minors next year as an emergency injury replacement with NHL experience.
