Realistically, none of the flames young defenders are imminently pushing for a spot. Even next season, it’s unlikely that anyone is going to push right away, and even then it’s not like any of the depth guys make a ton and can be moved easily.

Could be as early as next year, we’ll see.

I think a huge win for this season is giving so many guys a taste of the big leagues. They understand the pace, they understand what is actually required, now season in the AHL and work on what you need to work on in the summer.

I’m thinking training camp will have some surprises.

I had a feeling this would happen Oesterle is not someone you want playing regular NHL minutes even if you are not a playoff team.

especially considering they are still some of the best hockey players on earth

If you have ever played with or against guys that even had a cup of coffee in the NHL you know what I am talking about

Yep. Why trade a 5th rounder for Ryan Carpenter or a 4th for Tyler Pitlick when you can make a couple smart waiver claims?

Greer and Pachal were both great waiver claims.

'Salary cap casualty' I believe is what Deboer said.

Likely want the cap room for another deadline add, and with Tanev they were carrying 8 dmen

Seguin is maybe getting close and now they also want to keep The Stank up with the team? So someone has to go.

Makes sense because they also needed Tanev to be 75% retained.

And he wasn't on the active roster for that whole week. They had to make room for him now.

Stars fans saying he's pretty solid. Firmly a 6/7, but capable

Agreed and you don't really want Poirier et al getting caved in every night.

Hanley is arguably better than Oesterle and maybe equal to Gilbert.
