So many things....
- Eric Francis posted
- Then he posted again under a different account
- But then the second account wasn't him. Or was it?
- CP launched voice chat, but then seemingly took it down
- Jonathan Huberdeau still sucks
- Jacob Markstrom rules, except when he sucks
- The Flames are re-something-ing but we don't know what.
- Rico Fata was put on waivers
- something something Mark Jankowski.
- Rosebud was the name of his sled.
I think that covers it. It's been quite the thread.
That's great but this thread wouldn't even have to exist if 'Bad' Treliving signed Tkachuk and didn't let Johnny walk for nothing.
Amirite?
Oh, and Sam Bennet something something....

One owes their media career to nepotism, and one owes it to DEI. Both have been relatively mediocre in their roles, and probably standing in the way of better talent, so I’d be happy to see neither of them on my screen.
But from all accounts, one of them does appear to be a really solid person who everyone in the hockey community seems to like and respect. Like Jammies said, it's hard to picture her making this type of post about another colleague. Good luck in your new venture, Cassie.
Lots of former hockey players pivot into broadcasting and aren't very good at it but when it's a female they owe their career to DEI? Oof. I suppose all the others owe it to the old boys club...

Plenty of mediocre men use whatever leverage they can to get their foot in the door too. Old-boys connections, gender, looks, celebrity… people use whatever edge they have ( I mean how else did Glenn Healy ever get/keep a job?). I guess we can pretend that Cassie was hired on purely merit and that media execs were really eager to champion someone with a wooden personality and zero on-air charisma…or we can acknowledge the primary reason she got the gig at a time when the CBC/NHL were looking to diversify their on-air team, and there was little other competition. I don’t begrudge her for it, good for Cassie for taking advantage of the opportunity…she pivoted it into an almost two-decade career, while opening the doors for others to follow.

I wasn't Campbell's biggest fan as a broadcaster, but she has done a lot for women's hockey and was an accomplished athlete. I hope the new league does well and that Campbell can continue her legacy in that field.
People not being into her broadcasting style isn't a knock on women. The NHL has a lot of great female broadcasters, and even if I didn't like her style, she did open up a door and deserved the opportunity as much as any ex-player.

It’s just a weird, weasely thing to throw out there based solely on the fact that she’s a woman, which doesn’t just erase any of the merit-based reasons they might have had for hiring her, but also the non-merit ones (she’s an olympic-medal winning hockey player, after all).
Did being a woman help? Probably. Was it the primary reason she got hired over anyone else? Nah, you’d be stupid to think so.

She's not my favorite but I'd take her any day over Leah Hextall.

Completely agree, you can dislike someone's style for whatever reason, and sometimes it just takes time.
I hate Loubardias when he started. I came around.

Lol! Should we ask Mr. Francis how he got his start? What advantages he may have had?

Cassie got hired because she was a Canadian sports hero, very well connected in the sport, had an interest in broadcasting and yes, because she was a woman.
Being a woman was not the sole reason for her hiring. But getting young girls and women more involved in sport is something that society has wanted to see and has been working on for a loooong time. A great way of helping that is putting a woman's voice into sports that do not traditionally have a woman's voice. So when a young girl watches a hockey game they hear and realize that "Hey this is for me too!" I don't see an issue with the fact she was a woman playing a role in her hiring. I hope that they continue to keep things like this in mind when hiring.
Do I think she was good at it? No. She was awful. Her being awful had nothing to do with her being a woman though. And now that she's done it, we are seeing more women in hockey broadcasting beyond "pretty girl hosting the panel," who are capable (and in many cases better at it than Cassie) of offering unique and intelligent insights into the game. As more women enter the air waves, hopefully it leads to more young girls picking up a stick and playing the game.
