I love watching Pospisil. He skates hard, makes smart plays, seems to defend well enough for a young player, especially on the backcheck. If he can keep up the effort level, he'll be a great fit on a scoring line to get to the net and be a pest, or on a checking line to bring the energy.
What makes me even more impressed is that the Flames chose to bring him up at all. Looking at his counting stats and AHL career, he doesn't seem like an obvious candidate to be called up, but clearly the evaluators saw something that would translate to the NHL and they were bang on. That's a really good sign for the future imo

Need to figure out a way to terminate Huberdeau’s contract for any reason. The amount and term is going to saddle this franchise for another almost 8 season's. I can’t watch him skate around anymore and it’s only been a season and a quarter so far.
I don’t think it would be unreasonable to have Huby watch from the pressbox for a couple of games since that hasn’t happened yet and what’s the worst thing outcome?
Maybe it provides some perspective to the player…

Huska is probably testing different D pairs knowing Hanifin will be gone soon. Defense will soon be about the worst in the league

Obviously we don’t have anyone remotely of that caliber on our team right now, but we did. I think not naming a captain after Gio left was a mistake. The leadership group should have been handed over to Tkachuk and Gaudreau.
I think it’s outdated thinking that you need a veteran leadership group. The NHL is a young man’s league now. These kids have been groomed to be leaders for years. If you have a young core, hand the team over to them.
|
Gaudreau isn’t young (and he’s as much of a dud in Columbus as Huberdeau - more so, in terms of effort and leadership apparently). nothing about him in Calgary screamed leadership either. Tkachuk - I dunno. He never seemed to have big respect in the room and certainly not a guy you want talking to officials.

We should collectively just relax about Huberdeau.
He is not going anywhere. It's in the teams best interest to figure out a way to help him produce in the longterm, but for right now why are we complaining?
This is what sucking looks like. This is the medicine the organization needs. Just let the warmth of it embrace your body. Let it flow through you.
Chicago has Seth Jones. San Jose has Marc-Édouard Vlasic and Logan Couture. We have Jonathan Huberdeau. This is how you build a foundation for a better future.

I remember as a kid thinking Leeman would turn it around—“Maybe this game,” until he was gone. Childish hope isn’t going to turn around Huberdeau. He’s a shell.

Huberdeau is going through it bad right now but I still believe he can figure it out later. Don't think he will ever be worth 10.5m, but a 60-70 point forward is what my low expectations have come to. I still hope he goes the Skinner trajectory. Skinner was a hated man in Buffalo for a couple of years until he figured it out again.

The Knights can make it work with Brayden Pachal/Ben Hutton eating minutes on the bottom pair, there’s no reason why Gilbert/Solo/Oesterle/Desimone can’t provide baseline NHL minutes if properly supported.

The game was a lot closer and better than the highlights. It wasn’t a tight checking game, but it was fun. Flames forechecked well and played hard, considering BTB. There was one fluke goal off Kadri, but Stephenson caught a lucky bounce on his goal as well when the puck came right back to him in a good position, off Gilbert’s leg.

This was a good game to watch, bad goaltending on both sides, Calgary came out with a much deserved point vs. a very good team.
On to the next one.

I’m struggling with how Wolf’s goaltending could be described as bad. He bit on a nice move by Stone and the OT goal was a good shot on a breakaway. The other goals were scramble plays and powerplay goals.

It's easy to swallow right now but having him and his contract in years 4-8 is going to be tough.
I wont describe every scenario but theres alot of ways having him and his cap could seriously #### us after our re-whatever.

100% in the face-off circle, as well. Whenever Kadri got waved out of the circle, they went to Pospisil instead of Zary. A couple of clean wins, too.

In 6 years when the Flames are finally good again, maybe Huderdeau will be a feel good story.

Wolf, in all of his games has been solid—not bad, not amazing. You can see the talent and the potential coming through, and I am sure that this gets him a lot of benefit of the doubt where the Flames's other two goalies will get regularly lambasted by the fanbase.
I have no problems with the goaltending this season so far.

After a slow start Yegor Sharangovich has 8 goals and 14 points in his last 19 games, and has been the third most productive player on the team in that time, just behind Blake Coleman and Name Kadri. Many people were quite upset at this "fourth line player" that Conroy acquired by moving the team's leading scorer, Tyler Toffoli.
In the same period of time, and after a blistering hot start, Toffoli has scored 6 goals and 12 points. All of Sharangovich's 16 points have been even-strength, ahead of the pace compared to Toffoli's 13.
This trade is turning out to be great.
