In honor of his 74th birthday, I decided to switch off the game sound and play old albums by Tom Waits while barely paying attention to the game. My evening is already a lot better as a result.

Agreed.

Combine that with too many AHLers and no stars…

Figure it out.

I don't question Huskas smarts. He's got a sharp mind for the game and probably is teaching the right things.

I don't know if he has the motivating aspect though. I go back to the heritage classic after losing 5 straight going into a game on the national stage. The contrast between him and the woodpeckers pre-game speeches was stark. Came across like a guy pep talking 12 year olds before a game that doesn't matter.

Head coaching is multifaceted. You have to have a vision for the system but also be able to push buttons and light a fire under your guys. This is why the smartest guys usually aren't the ones in the HC position.

I'm at the Dome... What are we supposed to cheer for? People were cheering loud for Wolf and 2 of the first 7 shots went in. Neither his fault but that was pretty much it for excitement so far.

To me, the thing with Huska is that he won't be the coach when they're ready to contend. So it doesn't really matter that he's there now. His role will be to aid in the transition to a younger roster and help prepare them for NHL life.

If they surprise and do contend this year or next, thats gravy.

Absolutley perfect period to demonstrate how terrible the Flames coaching staff is.

Step 1. Don't show up ready to play. This is a theme on the year and coaching absolutley plays a role in game readiness.

Step 2. Come completely unprepared for the fact that the opposing goalie is great at playing the puck. Just repeatedly dump the puck in and let their goalie gain puck possession for the Canes.

Step 3. Everyone knows Carolina is a shot volume team and dthey are going to work he puck to he blue line to get pucks on net and generate offense. Should we pay extra close attention to pressuring the point and tieing up forwards sticks...nopers.

Step 4. Have the absolute worst PP possible. It's not that it doesn't score, it's that it can't even generate scoring chances. It's hard to overstate how terrible it is.

Flames went with a career AHL losing head coach, and an OHL coach for the PP, and both are just watching the team flounder.

This team doesn't play to be good at a single thing. Defensive zone sucks, don't generate lots of offense, breakouts are terrible, PP is a joke. PK is in the top half...woohoo.

Flames go right back to cheaping out on coaches and the results are predictable.

Not giving Mitch Love a chance was the dumbest move possible.

How so? A tip isn't really savable, it hits you or it doesn't. It didn't.

I absolutely agree with this. I was back and forth on the team and now fully agree with getting a top pick. At this time a top pick is sorely needed. We see many teams ride an average coach to make sure the team gets top picks then change when management thinks it’s time to challenge.

Not sure how you handle the wolf thing. He needs to get his shot. But this team might destroy his confidence.

He does seem like a super confident guy. But being in a losing environment is contagious.

Pospisil back in the lineup and is playing more reserved. Why would the coaching staff not want Pospisil to do what he does best?

His mental is crazy good. He can handle losing, the thing he cant handle is letting the same goal in that's his own fault twice. He needs regular starts.

When the effort isn't there, it's pretty hard to evaluate the coaching staff, unless you're looking for confirmation

Yes. With the Wranglers Wolf finds a groove and racks up wins. Still has the occasional bad game. But gotta give the kid a chance to settle in.

Plus he's never going to adjust to the NHL's speed without NHL minutes.
