Worthy suspension and one that should be handed out like candy to many many players on all teams.

I didn’t think comparing a player with a recent suspension to a player getting a suspension was way out of line. Let alone comparing them because they’re on the same team. Weird take.

Yep.
I don't think he meant to catch the neck. He was frustrated by McCann laying on the puck and made a dumb decision to take a shot.
None the less, he did catch him right in he neck, and it was dangerous. He deserved to be suspended.

As noted in the game thread, I think Mang went for a vicious cross-check on the shoulders and the stick slipped.

The stick is on his name bar when it first makes contact, it's definitely a slip and not all that hard

Its still really dumb but very different then the Benn one for sure

sorry Ron

Saw the replay and thought it looked pretty inconspicuous. Didn’t think there was a lot of intent there and figured a match penalty and an early boot would’ve been sufficient. Just one game though, so not going to be outraged. Lesson learned for Bread.

Honestly, I think sometimes we oversell the “dirty” aspect to some of these infractions when it comes to supplemental discipline. Maybe I’m naive but I honestly don’t think most plays are “vicious” in the sense of making plays with a deliberate and premeditated intent to injure. The game happens fast, and players make decisions in a split second, which can look way more deliberate in slow motion than it was in real life.

But to be honest I also don’t think specific intent is that important anymore. The NHL is trying to clean the game up and make it safer for the players, and there is a new mentality of the onus being on the hitter to avoid making a dangerous play—like a hit to the head, or (in this case) a cross check to the back of the neck on a prone player.

Was it vicious in the sense that Mangiapane wanted to hurt someone? Probably not. Was it reckless and dangerous though? Absolutely. It was a reckless, dangerous and dumb play. It also could have ended up being much worse than it did. Mangiapane is lucky to get one game and even luckier that McCann was not seriously hurt.

1 game is a very lucky result for the bread man. Could have, and probably should have, been more.

He needs to pull his head out of his ass. I don’t think he’s playing all that bad, but he has taken several very stupid penalties in the offensive zone this season.

This wasn't nearly at the same level as what Benn did. This was really just a poorly-aimed shove more than anything else. Like if these guys were vertical and in front of the net, the force behind this crosscheck would have barely been enough to push them out of the crease.

Don't get me wrong. The major, match and one game suspension are all warranted, but I'm glad the league saw it for what it was - not what it looked like it was.

Mange was probably interpreted as poorly aimed shove and mixed with him falling forward and instinctively pushing out with his hands while his legs were tangled with the other player. That resulted in cross-checking the neck but was not seen as maliciously intended on a nothing play. Andersson was a leap off his skates into a headshot.

I wonder if a penalty would've been called if Mangi fell due to McCann tripping him from his slide. Then, Mangi gets up, falls again but with his knee to the back instead of the stick. I thought that was ingenious to get the puck loose. It's like a kick to the groin.

This is well describe but probably irrelevant.

Whether the victim was injured or not seems the be the main determining factor for these suspensions. Laine was out.

Also it happening in the 1st period nearly counts as a game where as if Andersson wasn't suspended enough, he would have served a 0 minute penalty.
