FWIW, legs can go flying in weird ways. Here's Hughes in the playoffs last year catching an edge. At the speed pro hockey players go it's probably a lot more likely Petgrave caught an edge and lost control of his legs than it is that he intentionally ninja-kicked a guy in the throat. I just don't buy it for a second that he was intentionally trying to kick the guy. Sorry.

Disagree, that is the classic U7-U9 lean back or cut too hard fall. Not even in the same realm other than both being during a hockey game.

Well, for the record, Zednik was standing upright when a skate from his own player came all the way up and caught his neck. It can certainly happen… but that doesn’t negate this guys particular reckless history. And a clearly reckless play.
Wow, just watched a short clip of the incident. I didn't think there was any way a player would do that intentionally but after watching that clip im not so sure.
It really does look like Petgrave intentionally kicked him...

You’re right. It’s completely more plausible that he intentionally executed a ninja kick with extreme precision in order to perform a public execution for virtually no reason. He couldn’t have possibly fallen at a high speed and accidentally hit someone.

Or he was trying to knee the guy and screwed up. You can’t tell us he wasn’t doing that anymore than we can tell you that he was.
No need to argue about it. He’s the only one that knows what he was doing.

I agree with that, my first post in here I came to that exact conclusion. I think it was a knee gone wrong due to falling awkwardly at a high speed.
And you’re right, nobody will truly know his intent. But I think if your two choices are that he fell at a high speed and lost control of his legs or that he intentionally kicked someone in the throat in public and on camera I think it’s more reasonable to assume the first position.

No one is saying he intended to execute a perfect ninja kick.

I don't know if it was intentional manslaughter. But that's not an accident, that's a Shawn Michaels super kick
Also, the player apparently is the most penalized player in that league. So maybe it was just carelessness. But a man lost his life, so that's pretty ####ed up

As much as I agree it was intentional I don't see anything coming of criminal charges. Reminds me of when race car driver Tony Stewart ran over a guy who got out of his car and was yelling at him. Stewart has a history of being a hot head and said before he would kill someone if it meant winning a race and you could see him in the video turn to hit the guy and yet they made excuses for him. Same thing will happen here unfortunately.

No criminal charges, just a human being that likes to do things like that coming to terms with the fact that he killed another human being with what he loved to do.
It will not cost him any time in jail, but it will cost him his life in one form or another dealing with what he did, most likely.

Why are neck guards not really a thing at higher levels?
Western Hockey League just mandated neck guards effective November 3. OHL and the QMJHL already were mandatory. It's been mandated in minor hockey country wide for years as well as women's hockey at the top levels.

Stewart was charged, though.
I could see charges here, possibly. A conviction would be extremely tough.
